The 32-year old Masvidal said that the UFC had finally figured out his worth of late, that he is the kind of guy who can take out undesirables who find themselves straying into title contention. The Miami native didn’t say that the UFC asked him specifically to take out Maia for those express purposes, but he implied as much by pointing to the current situation.

“I’m going to plead the fifth because I do have a job, bro,” he said when asked directly about it.

Still, why did the UFC suddenly see the light?

“Because they did the math, the ancient secret math,” he said. “They’re looking at me and going, yo, this guy is complete bro, in all f*cking areas. We could use this guy to eliminate the guys that we don’t like. So maybe Masvidal, we can’t push him that much, but we could use him to eliminate the others, because this guy for real. He’s a bad guy.”

He's always talked like this. He just doesn't have the charisma of Conor to get people to pay attention.

Also... by his logic the UFC wanted him to take out Cowboy because they don't like him... That's nonsense. Even when he's a pain in the ass he's the perfect kind that they can easily deal with.

This makes sense. It obviously wasn't the case with Cowboy but it doesn't matter, Cowboy lives to fight guys that he (thinks he) can beat and he will fight monthly for peanuts anyway. But Masvidal is the perfect guy that will give everyone a fight and maybe kill their hype making it look (to the uneducated) that they lost to a journeyman.

You are correct, he had bravado in Miami when he was an up and comer, people noticed the skills and the ego..... I still think he's getting a little ahead of himself here.

I think in this McGregor era, you have several archetypes of fighters... The "I'm the greatest and there is no better", the "I've got a chip on my shoulder from being ignored", and the "let me call out the champ after beating the number 30th guy on a fight pass prelim" guy..... I think Jorge is a combo of the first two

He's not very good at playing the game, but he's getting a little better.

At least he's provocative, and not in an annoying way like Kevin Lee.
You nailed it 100%. Gambred appears to be slowly learning the game. Conor was spot on when
he siad.(Praraphrasing) "Lots of people can fight and lots of people can promote themselves but
like Ali I'm one of the rare people that can do them BOTH"

The Irish guy Era is a myth.
Not really, the amount of fighters who are now copying his MO to try to hype/sell themselves is ridiculous.... But again, I don't blame the fighters or the Irish guy.... I blame the company for only promoting and getting behind the people who act like that

I dont think it's fair to blame it on the company as much as the culture that we live in. The company is just trying to play the game the best way they can considering the circumstances and so is masvidal

The root of the problem is the community and it's values. America is dominated by a TMZ-type culture, for lack of better words...
