Golf is probably the only sport that has a successful women's league that I can't watch. The talent gap is just too much. Not surprising given the strength differences, but it bothers me when I watch it. You're 200 yards out and hitting a 3 wood? Yawn. The men are hitting a 6 iron and throwing darts at the flag from that distance.

I'd love to play a round with plenty of the women of the LPGA though. Some fine looking ladies in that league.
Explains why I don't like women's tennis. They simply can't hit the ball with the power men can. Well Serena can get close sometimes, but it usually doesn't come back when she does hit it with that much power.

The only sports I enjoy watching women more are the ones that involve graceful movements of the body, like gymnastics.

Actually it may only be gymnastics. So "sport".

I don't play tennis so that might be why it doesn't bother me. I can see the difference in the power between the men and women, but the women don't bother me because it's competitive. And like I said, when I did watch men's tennis it was pretty fucking boring. Serve. Ace. Yawn. If it's not like that anymore I'll have to give it another look, but I have no idea why serving speed would have regressed - or were the guys going against Sampras just shitty? Because back then it felt like guys were just praying they could get a racket on his serve.

The styles are different now. You still have guys like Federer, Murray, Djokovic and others who can serve as fast as Sampras used to, but players are better at returning now than they used to be. You've still got guys like Jon Isner who can bore the shit out of you, especially on a faster hard court, but fortunately for the viewers Isner isn't very good at returning.

Clay season is coming up - watch that. The ball moves so slowly that you get hella rallies. Hopefully Rafa is able to return to his old ways on clay, because he is incredible to watch on the surface. The way he slides nearly a quarter of the way across the court to return a ball is awesome to witness.

Its funny, I guess because of the shitty humid subtropical climate, we've actually got quite a few clay courts here. There are free courts at a park in Fort Lauderdale that are all clay.

Hauler @Alco Hauler also the players of this era are undoubtedly the greatest players of all time.

Sampras had the record with 14 grand slam titles, but that's since been surpassed by Federer (18), equaled by Nadal, and approached by Djokovic (10).

So you've got 3 of the greatest players ever all playing in the same era.

Also one of them has a seriously innuendo name (in my head)

I'm currently at work, but there are MUCH better photos I simply cannot click on or post without some potentially interesting repercussions.

Not that I am doubting Nadal's class but 8 (or is it 9) of those were on clay. Djokovic and Federer are the more complete all round players.

9 French Opens, 2 Wimbledons, 2 US Opens, and 1 Australian Open.

Nadal on his best day is the greatest player of all time imo, much like how Tyson is the greatest HW boxer of all time.

And yes I'm being 100% serious.

I disagree, Federer has more to offer. Nadal relies on his power and speed so much and his leftyness means he can blow people away with the reversal of power side.

Federer is a better all round player IMO, his style is more fluid, his shots have more potential to vary with no change in swing, he can get himself going with almost no show of outward emotion meaning his opponent has almost nothing to feed off.

The main reason, he doesnt do that dumb "bite the trophy" thing that Nadal does, the man looks like a complete dingbat.

Let's be honest - Federer is a smug cocksucker who is only gracious and humble when he's winning. But when he's losing he's an excuse-making, crybaby sardonic douchebag.

Nadal is 23-14 head-to-head. Granted many of the victories were on clay, but best-day-ever Nadal beats best-day-ever Federer 11/10 times on clay, 10/10 times on grass, and 7/10 times on hard courts.

I couldnt think of anyone less smug and less of a cocksucker in world sport than RF. The man is a beacon of hope in a sea of bitter, cry babies with no class.

The man speaks a million languagues, has a legit wife he is committed to, is a millionaire, runs a charity, wins tennis matches making it look easy even though it isnt and has one of the best logo's for a personal brand I have ever seen.

Nothing wrong with Nadal, I guess, but he's weird lookin, doesnt take care of his body and through playing style has suffered so badly with injuries a large portion of his later career is and will continue to be taken away. He is phenominal on clay, he has all the answers, but on the other courts he can be beaten with people who are smart enough. He is on the mount rushmore, but he aint the one in the middle.

The argument should be made that neither would have the level of greatness attached without the other. Without Nadal, Federer would have that hanging over that he was great in an era with no equal. Nadal the same. Andy Murray and Novak offer that these days but there was a period where it was just those 2 at the absolute pinnacle.

Champions need challengers and whether one is better than the other they are great against each other. That Wimbledon final that went over 5 hours back in like 2010 was possibly the best game of tennis I have ever witnessed.

You've really rustled my jimmies with this post.

As soon as I go on break at work you are getting a 2-3 paragraph rant.

Tennis is my favorite sport besides MMA. I can't play it at all, but love watching it. I went to the US Open for the first time this past summer and learned tennis people really know how to party.

The way I describe my tennis ability is, the court isnt big enough to handle my power.

In reference to a 2011 loss to Novak Djokovic:

Asked about the quite remarkable forehand winner Djokovic hit to save match point, Federer reckoned the Serb did not look at that point like someone "who believes much anymore in winning. To lose against someone like that, it's very disappointing, because you feel like he was mentally out of it already. Just gets the lucky shot at the end, and off you go."

US Open 2011: Roger Federer struggles to accept Novak Djokovic defeat

These are things you don't say, even if you believe them to be true. It'sjust bad sportsmanship. Accept the loss like a man and move on.

He pretends to be this humble good sport, but he's not. He's a selfish prick who cries when he loses.

It's why Nadal quit as Vice-president of the tennis players association (not quite a union yet because they can't organize themselves and because the AGO doesn't allow it, but mostly due to lack or organization).

Federer made it look like he wanted to help create a union, but then wanted to make changes that would only benefit him and him alone.

‘It is very easy to say, “I am not going to say anything, everything is positive”, and come off as a gentleman and burn the rest,’ said Nadal yesterday. ‘But it is not like that. If he finishes his career as a rose it is because he has an extraordinary body but neither (Novak) Djokovic nor (Andy) Murray nor I will end up as roses.’

Here's his wife, caught on camera whistling while his Miami Open semifinal opponent Nick Kyrgios was trying to serve (the match was razor close, with all three sets decided by tiebreaks):

Federer’s wife heckles Kyrgios

Now please tell me about the fantasy world you live in, where opposites really do attract and Federer is Jesus reincarnated while he marries and makes babies with someone capable of such classless behavior.

He started his career as a skinny kid from Spain who wore really long shorts, had vastly disproportionate biceps, and could only play on clay. While it's still his best surface and always will be, he has continued to adapt his game for the other courts. His serve, sub-par at best before, has become formidable.

He beats you not by superb placement like Federer, not by powerful returns like Djokovic, but by his superior athleticism and never-give-up attitude. Being left-handed has of course helped him, like it helps people in many sports. But it's his will, his drive, his passion that makes him so great.

To each his own, and I can respect the "Federer is the greatest" argument. It makes more sense to an outside than my argument. But like I said, Nadal on his best day beats anyone on their best day, on any surface.

Take your time. When arguing about the gentleman's game, we will, of course, be gentlemanly about it.
