DJ has headlined PPVs before. They didn't do well, but that's another BALD head lie...

He said ppv money not headline one. You know how some of the better draws get extra money based on ppv buys, yea thats what he meant.

If he is refusing to defend the belt against TJ then strip him and give the belt to TJ.

All that complaining about GDR refusing to fight Cyborg, but when DJ is refusing to fight, he's sticking it to the man.

What's he going to do, strip dj of the belt for refusing a fight with someone unranked in the division? Lol. Do we even know whether tj can make the weight? What a joke.

The best thing DJ could do for his career, publicity-wise, and in terms of creating a high-recognition "brand" is to pull a Riddick Bowe, and dump the belts in a trash can, with a measured public statement something like, "I'm not Dana White's slave. He doesn't own or control me. No American is any man's slave, nor should he allow another man to see him as such."

It would help if he meant it, but it's not really necessary. Everybody knows he's the p4p #1 right now. If he walks away, controversy follows. His legacy is already permanent as written up to now.

Then, down the line, if desired, before the hoopla dies too much, they could hold a Kumbaya conference and he can come back and fight someone they both like for him, that he can get excited about fighting. Everybody makes more money.

The only mandatory defense should be of a legitimate #1 contender.

Cyborgs fought at 145 and dominated for a decade. Dillashaws never fought at 125. Not saying he shouldn't get a shot or anything, but there's a huge difference between the two scenarios

If Cyborg fought so long in that weight class, then why duck Holly, and claim to have weight issues all of the sudden? You are right, the situation is not similar at all. TJ is willing to cut weight on request (in fact, he is already cutting according to Dana), and Cyborg makes these (many, many) vague excuses that we really don't hear from any other fighter regarding her own weight cut (in her OWN division!!!). TJ is much more deserving than Cyborg, there IS a huge difference.

It would make him look ridiculous. Especially using the slave card in 2017. So insulting and full of self-importance knowing these fighters make well enough money, to be regarded as slaves.

Yeh, but your automatic resentment reaction is kind of what would make it controversial & good publicity. White people's resentment of Woodley's "political" statements is basically his strongest asset brandwise & publicity-wise.

Whether you like or approve of it or not isn't the point, that you (and many like you ) kneejerk on that language is what makes it effective publicity (and also what makes the language valid).

Not a criticism of you, just a filling out of the argument, which was serious -- i.e. (1) that everybody knows he's p4p #1, and that (2) Dana does seem himself as plantation master (with *all* the fighters being his slaves -- regardless of race/identity) & (3) that the "slave" card has value for DJ because reception of him is racialized whether you (or anybody) want it to be or not, & since reception of him (interest/non-interest, identification/non-identification) is affecting him negatively anyway, he might as well use it to his advantage .

But the main thing was that dumping the belts on the grounds of #2 will create both support & resentment of him, all of which is good publicity.

I see how it would work, but with DJ, nobody cares enough. In fact, he is declining an offer that would be his biggest payday up to date. So by declining, or playing the race/slave card, imo, would make him look silly. He is part of the most diverse sports organization on the planet. For DJ I can find ten boring white guys that are getting paid shit. So I do not see a connection other than, he is running away from actual competition instead of the number 4 ranked Borg.

Good publicity for DJ? Fight TJ. People have been saying it, he needs that extra challenge, and besides, TJ is meeting him at own divison's weight class. It is not like he is asked to fight catch weight or anything.

Furthermore, I think the whole race/slave stuff should remain out of MMA. We have superstars from all walks of live, all color of skin. It is not like the NBA where there are a vast majority of one race.

Wasn't the weight cut issue because she was fighting on short notice? I'd rather a fighte say "I can't train AND cut the weight in a short time" rather than say they can and come in overweight. Cyborg is fighting at 214 so I would say whatever past issues she had were genuine.

He's not gonna do shit. They'll either up the financial incentives or this fight won't happen, in my opinion.

That was 10 weeks out if I remember correctly. Hardly short notice. Not ideal, though.
