In honor of the 400th UFC card this coming weekend, we decided to put together an article highlighting the "unsung hero" events throughout UFC history. Normally, we think of "milestone events" as the TUF 1 Finale, UFC 100, 200, 205, etc. Instead, we wanted to go through the milestone events numerically. As most of you should know, UFC 50 isn't the 50th event, UFC 100 not the 100th, and so on. So, we bring to you all some history and tidbits about the milestone events in the UFC.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any feedback, feel free to let me know. This piece is in more of an article form than other Cage Captions articles, since there was a lot to talk about.

I wish I had some deleted scenes to offer like I normally do, but this is the whole package. Phrasing.

I didn't realize this was the 400th UFC, how time flies. That was a well done summary of those events. Oh and,

Best article of yours to date IMO. That was very well done @jeicex.
Thanks man, that really means a lot to me. I appreciate it. I had fun putting together some interesting info about these cards, cards that we may have forgotten about. The Bisping/Silva card was so underwhelming as a whole that I decided to run the main event back, and I think it worked out well.

Great work and enjoyable article. Most of these events were better than the actual milestone events.

What other types of features like these would you guys like to read about? I have a sequel to this article, but I'm curious the kind of breakdowns you guys would like to see.

When I do these analyses, I don't want to go too heavily into the stats because I know it would only appeal to 1% of the audience, going into statistical significance and chi scores and the like. So, I try to keep it to interesting surface analysis showing frequency (or the lack thereof) and patterns.

pretty good article:

I personally would have broke down UFC 67 and the relevance it would have for years to come.

The event was held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada.

UFC 67 we saw the debut of Mikro Crocop, Rampage Jackson, and Lyoto Machida.

It was the first sign of big trouble in Tokyo ...as the great Pride Organization had just lost their big star Mirko Crocop who was coming off the Pride 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix, and Rampage Jackson the rough and tough brawler.

You could go on and on about that card....a very relevant card when looking back in history of MMA.

I think you missed the point of the article. UFC 67 was the 85th event, no significance there. The events broken down were all numerically significant, as you can plainly tell. It wasn't about relevance/evolution of the sport/significance to the UFC. It was about the 50th, 100th, 150th, etc cards, as Fight Night Lewis vs Hunt is the 400th.

I didn't select the events to talk about, and instead chose the milestone numbers and those were the events to come up. There was plenty to discuss in each of them, even if they didn't feature major developments such as new weight classes, title unifications, or anything like that.

And also, Rampage joining the UFC had nothing to do with Pride. He was under multi-fight WFA contract at the time, the UFC bought WFA, and picked up his contract. Sure, he was a former Pride fighter, but he fought Matt Lindland in WFA after leaving Pride.

@jeicex I can't think of any fighter to come out to Wu-Tang Clan. Has this ever happened? So many great songs that would make for a strong walk out.

Only one I have in my database is Matt Van Buren, who walked out to "Triumph" at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston (the McG/Siver card) and had a fight of the night loss to Sean O'Connell.

Great song! Thanks for that. I wonder if they just can't get permission or what? Wu Tang is popular with a massive library and is filled with martial arts references I'm surprised it's used so little.

No I don't think the UFC has problems with permission or licensing, I think it's all on the fighters to pick their songs and they just gravitate away from Wu Tang for whatever reason. Also, there are a lot of young fighters in the UFC so they might not have grown up listening to them like us.
