Another top coat on the hook. Bottom lashing complete. Waiting on leather straps to do the top and handle lashings. Going to do a traditional Hawaiian lashing on the top.
This is the basic idea of how the top will be lashed. If my leather ever gets delivered.
Capping off a vey unproductive week with some more unproductive lounging, before I head to my kids High School graduation this eve.

Is this a hobby? Done much/anything like this before? It IS BEAUTIFUL!! Wonderful work, you are very skilled. How long did the entire project take? Amazes me the skill, craftsmanship and patience people have that can do this. Hand Made is passing us by and the skills that go with it. Congratulations. Job very well done.
There's a few hours tied up into this but mostly because I got the idea to add the glowing resin after I all ready finished the project once. After I did the glowing resin inlays I had to strip the finish and redo. It's a wedding gift for my wife's brother. They're from NZ and I got the idea from the Disney movie Moanna, which in based on Polynesia mythology, which is right in their wheelhouse.
I would say I have about 20 hours in, maybe $150. I would like to do another one for my wife. If I do it again I'd like to do it out of a solid block of wood instead of lamimating.
