And in the end I still hold fast that simply silencing such discourse through criminality into the shadows will only further the spread of such ideology.
One day people may say the same about pedos..

I guess where Im coming from without reading anything besides the comments here is that if this is on university grounds (or any other publicly owned grounds) even if its them hiring a private hall it shouldnt be allowed, if they wanted to hire a private function center then that I wouldnt have an issue with it.

Nope you tried trolling me about our censorship laws last week.
I wasn't trolling you, that's still what this is about. Do you really not realize you're the only person in the thread who's thoughts immediately jumped to government regulation as the solution to the problem?

Youre just making shit up, first I laughed at her being a Uni Lecturer then I said that blacks should be allowed to be excluded too and asked what the difference is.

You can not ban a black person from attending anything due to them being black in my country, you cant do it to whites either, thats a good thing. Enjoy your uncensored child porn and segregation... FREEDOM!

LMAO I love her.

"BOOOHOOOOO HOOOOOOO YOU WHITE PEOPLE!..."

Just totally out of control and unapologetic. I say keep her around.
Agree. We all need comedic relief from time to time.

It's too over-the-top. I honestly believe people are hired or taken on by broadcast corporations to be agent provocateurs. No one in such a position could lack the awareness needed to honestly state what she was stating.

I am not saying you're right or wrong, but you may be underestimating the stupidity of some people.

If I have a party at my house, I absolutely can exclude anyone I want for whatever reason I want.

Yes. A house party falls under the umbrella of "anything".
FFS okay private events excluded, I meant things like gatherings at universities. You could just invite only black people to a university party here but if you told a white person they cant come in because they are white youll A) get bashed B) Get in trouble with the law.

How would they get in trouble with the law? We have laws here, too, but I've never heard of them being enforced in such a situation as this.

If someone wanted to, they would get the law involved. Even without any charges or convictions, just being investigated is guilt by association. Vutu has a point imo.

Like I've said before, it's cultural for you. Your live in a society where government regulation > personal responsibility.

We both do hence why things like racism aren't as big of an issue in our countries as in America. Government regulation for the most part reflects the mandate of the people. No one is crying here about child porn censorship or not being able to exclude people due to their skin colour

Are you in America? Which law agency would you call?

The act here is established under Federal law. So you would have to convince a federal agency to investigate. Im not sure the local law enforcement agency could do anything. I mean what could they do? Show up at said function and make them leave? They can't because we have laws protecting their rights to get together.

This is a law that looks good on paper but not for practical use. Really the only recourse I see is if someone (or many as a group) files a civil lawsuit for discrimination. (Although I'm not sure that would even fly in this scenario.)

No.
I cannot gauge someone's willingness to make a stink about something. My short answer to your scenario is "I don't know."
Really I don't know what you're arguing. I mean, if there was a "no blacks allowed" type gathering, how do you think that would go over in your neck of the woods? To me, logically, the debate ends with an honest answer.

My only point (really Vutu's) is that being accused of the wrong thing is enough in the court of public opinion and also to damage one's reputation.

seriously? What's her point?
That people should be allowed to gather freely in any way they see fit as a group, as long they are not threatening or causing harm to anyone else.

I agree that should be allowed but I don't recall her making that point. When did she say that?

I was curious as to whether your/his law was like ours. Being that they look good on paper but are useless except in civil court.
