Sarah Moras is seeking donations to put toward her upcoming fight camp.

The UFC women’s bantamweight fighter started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for her expenses leading up to UFC 215 at which she is set to face Ashlee Evans-Smith. UFC 215 takes place live from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alb., Canada on Sept. 9. No main event has been announced for the card.

With no union to spread pay around, lower tier fighters have to take second and third jobs to fund their camps.

Not sure if asking for a handout is the right way. At least I associate gofundmw with handouts.

Someone working multiple jobs to fight does it for the love. With the, current state of the highest level of MMA, if someone is several fights in and still working to pay for camps, they will likely never get the push or pay from the organizations that will result in fulfilling any long term financial goals.

ColeKonrad had it right...

The UFC should have some sort of program to help with this. Imagine if I was the best fighter in the world (I probably am tbh) but they signed me for a fight when I was skint and I couldn't afford to train... And pulled out the week of the fight.

They would be pissed at me despite my effort. Cancel the fight and black list me as if it was my fault.

Now I could have taken a job at McDonald's to help pay for my camp but then I don't get to train as much and show up not at the peak of my power, lose, and get cut. Maybe I win. But the money for my first fight doesn't cover bills and it's gone before my next fight and I'm stuck again.

well im sorta on the fence about this. If you fight for the "leader" in MMA you shouldn't have to start a gofundme. And then what about those girls in Invicta or even Bellator that you havent seen with a gofundme. Either way I hope things work out

Not to mention its 8 weeks to the fight, roughly 5,000.00 a month. Damn where do you find part time jobs that pay that?

i think that is kind of the whole point here .without the 10k it is going to be impossible.out of that 5k a month 2k is probably rent money because you are either working for a living or training full time.when is the last time we saw sarah fight? she made 10k for her last fight like 2 years ago.after taxes and training camp paying to fly her own corner out etc there probably wasnt much left to begin with.those girls with invivtca and bellator are free to seek out sponsors to help pay expenses.mma fans are weird.everyone talks about how the fighters should get paid more and how we need to support the sport but no one wants to use their own money to do it. i made a post like this on r/mma last night and got a pile of hate messages and ended up getting banned for calling someone a anonymous keyboard warrior. i just think it is pretty sad that athletes in the top promotion dont even make poverty line income and have to resort to crowd source funding to keep doing their jobs. wmma will never grow to meet mens mma if we are still in that day job era and end up having a waitress fighting a hairdresser on live tv.the girls who are able to train full time like johanna and rose will alway have an advantage over the ones who have to put in 8 hours then go to class with the regular people.

The key is, the UFC doesn't care.

How is crowdfunding a fighter's camp even logical? We just donate because we feel bad the UFC is stiffing her?

This is why MMA is dying.

UFC could pay for $10k camp for every fighter on their roster to fight 4 times a year for less than $10m/year.

It'd be a paltry amount if you only pay for camps of fighters who make less than 30k/30k.

But this is why fighters need a union, if there's only one promotion in town

Can't she use the new UFC facility? Or is that too inconvenient for her?
She can and everything there is free. But she still has to pay her normal bills and cover transportation for her and any team members that need to be there with her.

She can but she still would need to go to vegas and bring her coaches with her.her coach is probably busy running his gym and treaining guys like rory mcdonald and shane campbell.its a cool idea to have a free training facility but it is only free if you actually live in vegas
