UFC Long Island: The full story

This is about all UFC fighters from Long Island.

Mark La Monica is Newsday's (L.I. major newspaper) mma reporter. He is starting to move up in the general mma journalism world a little bit since the legalization in NY and getting some breaking mma news stories here and there.

Pretty terrible card for a main Fox event. Villante, Cummins, Elkins and Bermudez aren't bums but they all just make up the numbers fighters. And if you look at Villante, he seems to have been on the undercard of several main Fox cards, where he belongs,

And it is headlined by a guy on a 3-stoppage losing streak vs a blown-up welterweight - easily the worst male main event on Fox ever. Rivera vs Almeida the only fight really worth anything. And the prelims are crap with only a few recognizable names.

Good news is all of the idiots betting on Gastelum are going to make me a rich man.

I believe there are 6 fighters from Long Island on the card, so maybe ticket sales still count for something.

They could still have 6 Long Island fighters on there and also have some good fighters. And they are not fighting in buttfuck Idaho - it makes sense to have a few locals, but a good card should be able to draw a crowd in NYC regardless.

If their main concern is about local ticket sales while presenting their product on their widest national platform, then they are even more fucked than I thought.

Just looked at the card again. Burgos vs. Pepey could definitely lead to some kind of performance bonus - that should be a great fight. I think this may not be the best card for tv ratings, but I'm excited for it as a regular mma fan.

I think they are. The tv money is already in the bag as part of the deal. The ticket sales right now are what can add to their extremely short-term goals. It's not smart for the company, but good for those execs just looking for their bonuses for this year. (Unless I am mistaken about their setup.)

TV money is far from in the bag - they have to negotiate a new deal. And they're is trouble because they bought the UFC on the assumption that rights would quadruple.

This ESPN article says they are fine BUT every one they talk to is in some way an insider. What are they going to say, 'we fucked up'?

A look at the UFC one year after its historic sale

I'm more inclined to believe a shitrag on this one:

WME-IMG Seeks TV Knockout as UFC Rights Talks Begin

"When Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta III – who acquired rights to UFC in 2001 for $2 million – were peddling their stake in the company, many industry executives balked at the media rights valuation in the sales documents, which projected an aspirational annual rights haul of $400 million beginning in 2019. Fox Sports executives scoffed at such a rich price tag."

What? This is FOX card?
UFC standards dropped so low.

Are they trying their best to run the company down to the ground???

They put Justin Gaethje on TUF after that epic debut and this weak ass card after another.

They should reach out to the TMMAC for pointers. We should make a "UFC suggestion box" thread and let these fuckers know how to save a company. Im sure the legit fans could put together a card way better than this.

I only meant in the bag for the short-term numbers they have to make right now.

Well its hard to live up to the hype of the Nelson/Whoever knocked him out card.

This is confusing, based on your comment it seems you're taking Weidman but your avatar is Gastelum beating Kennedy. So who do you have in the main event?

Fat boy will always have a place in my equally fat heart for smashing Kennedy, but he's not getting past Weidman. He's a WW. He's 5'9.

Kennedy is 5'10, was inactive for 2 years and 37 when he fought Gastelum. And still threw Kelvin around at the start of the fight.

Weidman is 6'2, is in his prime age wise, and is a better wrestler and striker than Kennedy. The size difference is just too much.

Look at what happened to Hendricks vs Boetsch.
