Watching Gavin Tucker fights, it’s easy to see the talent and potential the 31-year-old featherweight possesses. In his UFC debut in February, the unbeaten newcomer showed no sign of nerves or hesitation as he expertly carved up veteran Sam Sicilia en route to winning a unanimous decision.

But as great as he looks on tape, it’s when you speak to Tucker that you really start to understand that the promising fighter from St. Anthony, Newfoundland, has the makeup to potentially be something special.

There is an intensity and focus to the way he speaks, his answers coming out arrow-straight and on point just like his jab. He doesn’t mince words and isn’t worried about “saying the right thing” or providing quotes that could make for a good headline. He is transfixed on becoming the best martial artist he can possible become, eschewing just about everything else in favour of putting every last drop of energy he has into chasing his dreams and making the most of the opportunity before him.

“I celebrated with a training trip to Thailand; I spent a month there training,” he said when asked whether there were nights of celebration and revelry following his February triumph over Sicilia in Halifax. “I certainly didn’t go to George Street — I wasn’t slamming shots and beers and stuff like this.

I was really impressed with his last fight against Sicilia, can't find a video to post though. Guy seems to have a lot of talent and the right personalty to create some buzz and Canada is desperate for somebody new.

Ted Williams' head @zrg3g521v any word on this guy from your part of town? Any chance you could pick an easier SN to tag you with?

TBH I was gutted to see Gavin take a brutal L like that, but hopefully he'll be one of those guys who gets way better after a loss.

Almost got out to see him mentioned it in PM haha

That ref should be sent to McCarthy's school to learn how to do his job.

Tuckers statement post fight, from the Facebook link above,4 broken bones in his face.

"In victory say little. In defeat ....less.
ill keep it short and sweet. i lost on Saturday. stop blaming the ref for a bad call. that man let me go out on my shield. he visited while i was in the hospital and apologized. was him and i in that cage. I didnt stop fighting. he saw that. he should sleep easy.
I have four broken bones in my face. the first which started on the jaw in rd 1 and the fight went down for me from there. i have 2 fractured orbital and another vertical fracture in the jaw according to the x ray/CT scan. the heartbreak of losing hurts much worse. throughout the day i wiped alot of blood off my cheek and i can't say for sure there weren't some tears in there. I fought w blurred vision and 3 different Rick Glenns kicked the fuck out of me for the last two rds. (i tried to hit the one in the middle) congrats to my opponent. i hope you go far because i plan on seeing you again.
I fought my heart out. I'm a rare breed of straight savage and i don't need social media to tell me that. however...i am appreciative of all the support i received on here. which is why I'm writing this. I have no excuses and won't stand for anyone making them for me. that's not how the north folk get it done.
I have a great Family. a great team. and the greatest woman. ill be twice the man for this.
thats it..... Tucker 2.0 is on the way."

He took a serious ass whipping but now we know the guy is tough, he's a pitbull who won't quit, which is one of the most important assets you can have in the fight game.

He is athletically talented and very skilled with his striking. We've seen tons of guys take embarrassing losses and come back way better - Wonderboy, Canadian boys Rory and GSP, etc. So don't sleep on him yet.

The fact is he was hyped too hard and moved along to fast. He'll heal up, start fighting guys with similar experience levels and work his way up.
