Serious Question

After WW2, would it have been better if USA just allowed the Soviets to take over Korea instead of forcing a split into North/South? Would have saved the proxy war that killed a ton of people, and Kim Jong-un wouldn't have a neighbor to be pissed at.

Would have sucked for South Korea, as those folks appear to have a decent existence - but this shit is going to come to a head sooner or later and I doubt it's going to end peacefully.
I think this was due to Truman's Containment program in order to avoid the spread of communism. A what if scenario would have most likely resulted in other tensions in the region.

NK offered to dismantle their nuclear program, on the condition that the US remove their military presence from the area.

Peace talks could make that work.

NK were disarming until Bush named them in the Axis of Evil. Now they've seen what happened to Libya after they disarmed. There's no way it works now, but neither will the U.S. invade now they have nukes either. U.S. has to recognize that N.K. is a nuclear power and treat them as such, although, it might provoke Japan and S.K. to create their own programs.

I think it's in everyone's best interests to launch a simultaneous strike on , say, 20 north Korea defences. All within a 1 minute window of each other.

They will knock this shit off real quick

U.S. have 50k troops in the DMZ - not to mention the millions of civlians in Seoul - that are prime targets for nukes if the U.S does anything rash. I don't think the Pentagon risks it.

Where did you get that figure?

I find it hard to believe the us has more troops in Korea than Afghanistan and Iraq combined.

I'm ready to eat crow

Trump's already doing some good things behind the scenes. Malaysia was one of the Norks strongest allies, lil Kim even had his brother whacked at the airport there. Their militaries trained together, etc.

Then, to little fanfare, this was announced with the Malaysian Prime Minister

Norks give most of the world the finger because they have allies, now if the Chinese banks would freeze some accounts we'll be in business. Or we could blow up the Nork's oil refinery where China refines a lot of its crude

Also if the scale on the map on the link is correct, I also had no idea how close to each other these places are
