A pivotal middleweight bout between Ronaldo Souza and Chris Weidman could be in the works, according to Souza’s manager, Gilberto Faria.

Faria told Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting in a recent interview that ‘All-American’ is being targeted for late-December or early next year.

"I believe that Weidman might be the next fight, in late-December or early-January, if that’s a good date for the UFC to book this fight,” he said. “When we get closer to that date, we’ll see more clearly what the options are for Jacare’s next opponent."

Souza, 37, hasn’t fought since he lost to newly-crowned interim champion Robert Whittaker in April. The Brazilian was knocked out with a head kick and punches and was…

Both these guys are pretty tough to bet on at this point.

I cant see how this fight will play out. I see a bunch of sloppy striking exchanges, and some good grappling exchanges or possibly some fence stalling.

Jacare too? He lost to now champion Whitaker and got robbed of a decision win over Romero (I had 2 and 3 for Jacare).
I'm not saying they both suck or anything just that not too long ago I couldn't imagine them losing except to Rockhold or Moose. Now facing each other with some Ls on their records it's tough to predict who is able to ride to the occasion. Another loss for either would be a brutal hit on any sniff of a title shot.

Easy fight to pick. Weidman will dominate Jacare, Weidman will keep it standing and pick him apart.

It's a good thing Jacare signed his new deal before the Whittaker fight because he's about to be on a 2-fight losing streak.

Jacare is still a top 2/3 MW with Whitaker and possibly Yoel being ahead of him, Weidman is 5/6... I'd give this fight to Jacare via decision or late round submission.

Jacare is doing a seminar at my gym on the 30th, I'll ask him about this fight.
