I can see how people perceive Obama as inciting hate from groups like BLM, but from what I remember people attributed that to him saying that something needs to be done about police brutality against the black community. That's different than what Trump's done imo, but if you have other examples of Obama doing it, I'd definitely listen.
This highlights an issue I have. People who support Donald Trump do so because he's "not a politician", and he was perceived to be a straight shooter when he was elected. With that said, when he is exposed in a massive lie to his supporters, many of whom were actually very negatively affected by Obamacare, the supporters say "well, everyone knew that one was not gonna happen." He literally repeatedly said "it's gonna be so easy" many times during his campaign. I knew it wouldn't happen the whole time, but I'm disappointed that he tricked so many with it. It was just lip service. He had no plan, whatsoever, and he won because the people trusted him to fix it. This is worse than Obama's "you're gonna keep your insurance" thing, because I don't think that Obama knew what was eventually going to happen. Obama should get shit for that, certainly... but the two are massively different in my opinion.
NOW, Trump is doing everything he can to make Obamacare as miserable as possible for people, only to discredit it and give him a better shot at passing the terrible health care bills that the republicans have put together. This is a terrible stain on his presidency, but his followers don't see it that way.
I am not talking about the idea of deporting illegal immigrants. I know some illegal immigrants, but I completely understand the fact that people want that cleaned up. I'm not mad at Trump for being tough on immigration. I'm mad at him for using it as a façade, and rallying a bunch of people who think a wall is the solution while pretending that the issues in this country are primarily caused by illegals. It was, once again, only lip service. It's a trend with the Donald. Also, I don't want my president to do anything for the lulz. That's a big issue with this guy- it's the most important job in the world. He shouldn't be so silly that it's funny.
There are certainly things that can be done. There are regulations that were put in place to clean up pollution, and he gutted them. He drained the budget of the Environmental Protection Agency and barred them from publishing any climate data for the foreseeable future. The air in the United States was getting cleaner. He left the Paris Climate Agreement because other countries weren't paying their fair share, but he seemingly has no plans to fix it and go back after pollution as he said he would. Look at Beijing, China. Pollution is a problem, and cleaning the air with new technology is important. Like I said, this isn't about climate change. Clean air should be a priority, and he made it not a priority because he's loyal to the oil guys and, once again, it was lip service to a constituency who thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax, which has turned into anything that works to fight pollution being evil.
My problem with this idea is that he built it this way, and championed this "fake news" thing so that he can control the narrative. He's not taking this bold stance against corruption in the media. He tweets Fox and Friends headlines almost every day (because, by the way, our president gets his news from Fox. This is documented, and it's dangerous.) He's doing it so that his followers don't believe any negative press about him, and to my surprise it's worked like a charm. He literally tweeted "all negative polls are fake news". Look, I hate CNN too. Don't pretend that this guy is doing something noble here, though, or he wouldn't love Sean Hannity so much.
Also, with the tweeting, he changes world stock markets with his tweets, and he doesn't take them any more seriously now than he did when he was just the guy on the apprentice. He attacks detractors, he pushes his followers to a mainstream narrative (just the one that Fox is reporting), and he pokes other countries via social media. It's dangerous, and once again nothing that the most powerful leader in the world does should be appreciated for the lulz.
This is KIND of true. Every politician lies. The problem with this guy is that he lies about everything, even when he doesn't have to, and since he's "not a politician", his followers see him as an honest guy until he's caught in a lie, and then they say "well, they all lie". Obama lied to the American people and was caught in it multiple times. Trump lies to the American people nearly every time he speaks. I'm not sure if he gets his statistics from memes or if he's just outright lying and he knows he's lying, but he's proven that he believes anything that helps his narrative, and he's just not very good at actually gathering real information. He also directly contradicts his press secretaries constantly, which is a major issue because the rational public can't take anything he says seriously.
This is the one thing I'd say is a positive about him.
I skipped a couple because this is getting long, but though I do think Obama mishandled the BLM thing, Trump has intentionally courted white nationalists, in my opinion. Putting Steve Bannon in there as his COS and saying the things he said about immigrants (being tough on immigration is fine, but the "they're sending their rapists and murderers" line applies to what I'm saying here), shows me that he not only doesn't mind having white nationalists on his side, he knows he needs them and their anger to succeed. They aren't most of his voter base by any stretch, but the way he handled Charlottesville was a major misstep that exposed his allegiances. He had three different contradicting statements, and he did it on purpose so that he wouldn't lose them while still being able to say that he condemned them. He said "he wanted to get all of the facts", when in reality we know that he almost never waits for all of the facts when jumping to conclusions incites the right type of anger in his voter base.
Sorry for derailing the thread and I didn't mean to make it about Trump. We can do PM or start a new thread if you wanna continue the conversation because as I said, I don't want to distract from people talking about Hillary's corruption. The democrats pushed a piece of shit too, just a different type of piece of shit, for better or for worse.
