Jose Aldo believes it’s time for the UFC to make a decision about the future of the lightweight division.

The former featherweight champion, who is slated to rematch Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 218 on Dec. 2, spoke with reporters about the current state of the 155-pound division during a media day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Conor McGregor won the lightweight title in Nov. 2016, but has yet to defend the gold since “The Notorious” spent the year of 2017 preparing for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.Tony Ferguson was crowned interim champion in the meantime.

“Thank God my division is moving. It would be bad if it was stuck, but my division is moving,” Aldo said. “It’s hard, right? Every athlete dreams of becoming champion, fighting for the title, and the guy is holding up the division. But it’s up to the UFC to make the decisions.

“The UFC needs to do what has to be done: you take the belt away or make him defend it. I think everyone is waiting for that.”

He is 100% correct.

A kid purposely getting detention to avoid the after school ass whooping is gonna have to do it eventually.

I like Aldo, he's a phenomenal fighter.... But he lost to Conor, and every time he makes any comment about him (even if he's correct, like he is here), it comes off very crybabyish.

Here's the thing him and all the other fighters need to do.... Stop talking about Conor, stop the damn call outs and cheap imitations.... Focus on your fights and goals, and if it lines up that you fight each other, THEN start your trash talking.

the best thing for everyone in his division, if they want him to come back and fight, is to shut up about him.

Every time you say his name, he cashes another sponsor check and forgets about fighting.

Conor lined his pockets in the Mayweather fight, and promoted MMA in the process. It benefits Conor & The UFC. The lightweight division will suffer for a short time, but in the long run, it will benefit the sport by bringing more attention and fans to the sport.

He deserves immunity to a degree for those reasons.

If he hasn't defended the lightweight strap within the next 4-5 months (or April, like his coach has mentioned), then it's time to strip Conor. If he fights anyone other than Tony Ferguson in his next fight, then he has to be stripped also.

If he wants to do these money fights, well, go for it, just not with a (C) next to your name.

i think that's all we want. I don't care about his money fights - i can ignore those. But if the interim belt changes hands while Mr. "(C)" is sitting around that would just be totally wrong. WME don't give a fuck tho

Don't be surprised when Conor's next fight is against GSP for the middleweight championship...

If this is the case and GSP is in the shape he was last time out then we have our 3 weight champ in Conor.

This.

I'm a big fan of Aldo and thought he deserved a rematch against Mcgregor right away.
Now that Mcgregor is fighting in another division he should be talking about him unless he wants to fight him in said division.
This just comes off as petty talk, he is probably right still comes of as petty.
