And I'm just going to head off this morning's hype about this. The kids mom is from Small Town Tennessee and as you might expect owns a few Confederate flags and thinks that NFL players need to stand up for the national anthem. These post I've got people crying racist at his mom. Maybe true, maybe not.

But independent of that is some kid getting destroyed at school, like many others, and a story that is totally separate from that gossip.

Hadn't even heard about the mom
Her beliefs have no connection with the issue, wish people didn't always have to try and find a negative to latch onto (not you, people complaining about the mom)

I'm struck that in the middle of that he's still worried about how bullying is affecting other kids too
That part got me too. As a father, that video really gutted me. My first instinct would want to crack some skulls, but at the same time I'm fully aware that there are more positive and productive ways to handle it. As I mentioned in the other thread, I wouldn't want my son to learn bad behavior by watching me lose my shit in a scenario like this. Young kids are truly sponges, and they can be guided in the right direction no matter the situation. If those lessons are taught to kids properly, it will stick with them for life. That's one of the biggest responsibilities of a parent. There are always appropriate options and ways to turn a situation around. I hope that I can be the right example for my son should we ever encounter something like bullying.

I would blame poor parenting. Parents probably have no idea their kid is a bully.

Bullying I think is pretty natural in species that live in groups. You see animals bully the weaker one all the time. It's kind of that we need to teach our kids not to revert to these instincts.

I think poor parenting is a huge factor. Ans yes, some parents may not be aware, but I imagine there are just as many that don't see anything wrong with their kids poor behavior. There are any number of terrible things that a child may be exposed to at home or with their family, and those negative environmental situations are often expressed in bad behavior of one form or another. I imagine kids that are bullying others have something that's eating at them in their personal life, and they're acting out as a coping mechanism. Or maybe they just have little to no positive parental influence to be guided by and to learn from.

The mom just won the trailer park lottery. It sucks for the kid but once his 15 minutes is up its going to get much worse for him. The mother should have handled this much differently.

Agree but sometimes you will see kids from perfectly fine homes taking part in bullying. As a farm girl i can tell you its pretty much like that with animals too. A good bunch is likely social conditioning from their family life or just going along with bullying that occurs in their circle of friends. However some of it I think is instinctual to just subconsciously exclude those who we feel are an impediment to our social grouping and species. And this can be why we don' think our kids are capable of it or we don't see the harm it causes.

You can see how sad the boy is by the expression on his face. This really shouldn't be about his mom or whatever issues she has. If she is some racist trailer trash then hopefully she sees what discrimination is doing to her child and thinks about her own actions.

Pretty cool that everyone is looking to help the kid out...

but get ready for an onslaught of minivan moms videotaping their kids crying about bullies and sending it out to the masses.

I dont know if she is racist or not. The outpouring of gifts and attention this kid will be showered with the next month will come to a end and the bullies will be looking for retribution. I like how everyone is coming out in support of the kid by offering to bully the bullies.

Also with the way the internet works the parents better hope their house is in order. Their lives and personal business are about to be scrutinized.

Maybe not a bad thing if all of this helps reduce bullying in some capacity. A kid should be able to go to school and focus on education and building friendships.

I agree, but I think you know what I'm getting at. Helicopter moms posting a video of every injustice beset upon their children.
