UFC 222 is exactly four weeks away, and now the card will need a new main event.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that featherweight champion Max Holloway has suffered an injury that will once again push back his title defense vs. Frankie Edgar. This comes just a couple of months after it was Edgar who withdrew due to injury when slated to fight Holloway at UFC 218.

According to Okamoto, the UFC hasn’t officially pulled Holloway from the card, but they are “already in the process of exploring other options for its main event.”

Report: Max Holloway injured, out of UFC 222 main event vs. Frankie Edgar

That sucks

long fight camps are to blame

I liked pride where you got notice a week or two out and were just expected to be ready to go

Max was probably training a shit ton of grapplefuck and hurt his striking based Island Body

Thinking about it, the UFC doesn't have many options, one month out of a PPV event with a card that does NOT have a serviceable main event replacement on the card.

The rest of the card:
Struve vs Arlovski
Dariush vs Green
Dollaway vs Lombard
Caraway vs Stamann
Yoder vs Dern
Zingano vs Vieira
O'Malley vs Soukhamthath
Johnson vs Milstead

Edgar could fight Ortega, Elkins, Korean Zombie if he's healthy, or Kattar, out the top 15.

Aldo - Don't want to see the third one
Ortega - Could be
Emmett - Busy a week before fighting Stephens
Swanson - Lost to Edgar convincingly, lost his last fight
Lamas - Lost his last fight
Korean Zombie - Recovering from knee injury, could fight again soon but we don't know
Stephens - Busy a week before fighting Emmett
Elkins - On a six fight win streak now, but would people pay to watch him?
Yair - Nope
Moicano - Lost his last fight
Bektic - Not ready
Choi - Lost his last two
Jury - Nah
Kattar - Dark horse in the division, would get annihilated

There aren't fights at 155 for Frankie that would sell, the top guys are busy.

maybe they need to put together a super fight between mid ranked guys in a Heavier weight class to hold the card up

Legends fight maybe?....maybe even sign a fighter from another org to debut

I want some hot cards this year damnit

As it stand now, 222 is no longer PPV-worthy. There are so few replacement options that would make it worth $65 dollars for even the crazies like me that actually buy every card (unless I'm out at a sports bar with buddies or family), it's hard to see. If they pull a fight out of left field, sure, I'm down. But I'm looking at the rankings, roster, and schedule, and the UFC's in a pickle losing this fight.

At LW, what fight would sell for Frankie other than the top guys already busy? He wouldn't fight Eddie, and the other guys on the list aren't appealing for a card that we'd pay money for. Barboza, Gaethje, Lee, Diaz and Chiesa all lost their last fights. Poirier is rising but I see Edgar vs Poirier as a main event of a FS1 card, maybe Fox these days.

I think Frankie needs to sit

slam two heavies in that spot and maybe another LHW prospect fight....guys that can make the weight easy

That would bring value up for the PPV consumer

I absolutely love main cards with 3 fights in the 205+lb range

Frankie hasn't caught a break since Doug Crosby inexplicably scored the first Penn fight like 50-26 in his favor

How about canceling the card? Or could we see the return of Nate Diaz sooner than we thought?

no just some big boys to bang

two big boy fights and the card will be a good beer drinking card IMO

interim is a word I am ignoring...titles are worthless in UFC IMO

real fans know the best fighters of each year/era

So if TJ doesn't take the fight against Cody (which he shouldn't - it's not smart), what does the UFC do with 222?

If I'm Edgar, I'm waiting for Max and giving that orbital bone some extra time to heal.

TJ turned it down. Good choice. Now it will be interesting to see what they can do to save the card. Time to break out the bags of cash Dana.
