With Cris Cyborg set to fight Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222, that shelves (at least temporarily) a potential super showdown between her and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

So what’s the next step for Nunes? It looks as if a fight with Raquel Pennington is the plan, according to MMA Weekly’s Damon Martin.

Sources say Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington is being discussed currently...haven't heard a date but I'd assume UFC 224 in Brazil would be a likely landing spot. #UFC

Wow 135 has lost almost all its spark and excitement. Its almost like
the most exciting female to ever grace the Octagon has left and there is
nothing but "meh" left in the void.

Jokes aside where are all the future and upcoming 135 female stars?
Its like we hit a dead spot of fresh talent in the division

Would certainly like to see this fight after Pennington has had 2 more fights. Coming back from an almost career ending leg injury, I would not be taking a fight against Nunes.

She did look phenomenal leading up to her injury, it's a shame. 4 fight win streak against top competition, and lost by split decision against Holm back in Feb 2015.

Pennington has earned that shot. I think she makes it a fight. She's really turned the corner in recent years. Amanda may still be too much for her, but it should be interesting.

Someone has to fight Nunes, and Cyborg has a booking now.

I'd also rather they didn't just keep Nunes on the shelf for 10 months at a time, and the only other credible option is Ketlen Viera. Viera is currently booked herself and is less ready than Raquel. So I'm okay with this.
