I grew up in the hood, I get called racist all the time. Rarely by anyone who isn't white though. Weird shit.
it's an unnecessary word to use, and given that using the word can overshadow everything else you say, may as well not to do it.
I'm going to guess intent. If he grew up in an environment where nigga is tossed around casually by many it's not a big deal to say it, he's not trying to be hurtful but moreso endearing or general reference. It's like using cunt in Australia right @Miesha's Taint ?

on how the people hearing a white person say it grew up as well.
I have white friends I've known for years that won't say it around me
and I have white friends I've known for years that are so ghetto they really
can't express themselves without saying it.
I'm 50/50 on it. Depends on the circumstances and context.

seeing anyone of any race say it kinda makes me me wonder the motive and makes it awkward, but whatever.
I can see taking the power from the word by using it but then you can't be picky about whom is using it.
