Aaaaah yes, the n00b fingers.... Just wait 6 months until you have no fingerprintsNot feeling as bad as I expected today. The soreness is gone but some battle wounds showed up.
Start taping your fingers if you do a lot of gi. I wish I taped my fingers a lot earlier, I have a callus on my finger from grabbing the pant grip every single day, it looks pretty ugly, was supposed to go doctors so they could freeze it off but I’ve been lazyNot feeling as bad as I expected today. Tape your fingers and don’t deathgrip!
Welcome to the madness!!!- Learned some spider guard techniques.
- partnered with a helpful blue belt
- had a great roll with a purple belt
- thought I was going to throw up
- so sore
- loved everything about it!
- ordering a second gi and can't wait for more!
2nd class.
- No else showed up so I basically had a private session.
- Went over basic drills and positions.
- Rolled with the instructor and got submitted countless times.
-Taped my fingers but forgot my toes. Now my toes are sore.
- Had a blast again. So addictive!
I live in a small community so I don't foresee large classes anytime soon which is nice.I used to love these classes at my old gym, my current gym is a lot bigger so we never have small classes
The thing with having smaller classes is that the rolls can become boring, you know everyone's style, their favoruite grips, submissions etc.I live in a small community so I don't foresee large classes anytime soon which is nice.
However I hope they don't get much smaller either.
And this is where I use my coaches philosophy (which is a Gracie philosophy) of "train against yourself".... Put yourself in the deepest hole and work out.... or if you're a guard player, only play mount.... Or limit yourself to one submission.... Or eliminate a submission after you've caught it..... You'll notice that your training will improve with thisThe thing with having smaller classes is that the rolls can become boring, you know everyone's style, their favoruite grips, submissions etc.
Yeah I've heard a few people say this, makes senseAnd this is where I use my coaches philosophy (which is a Gracie philosophy) of "train against yourself".... Good stuff. I'm coming up on my one year in October and when I'm with guys I have an advantage on its "catch and release" rolls. The biggest difference I'm noticing is chilling the fuck out and not going 100% with every movement. I've gone from gasping for air after one 3:00 roll to working my way through multiple 5:00 rolls and being able to talk through out. As of now my favorite technique is the Kimura, try to slap it on every chance it looks possible. Like you mentioned i put myself in shit spots and try find an opening or just survive against bigger or better guys. And this is where I use my coaches philosophy (which is a Gracie philosophy) of "train against yourself".... Are you challenging me?!!!S @Super Dave have you asked about tourneys?
Let's meet at a tourney in Calgary or something in the future for sure man. I'm 38 currently 180-185ish but am slowly trimming off 5-10, I think we'd be in masters 2? That would be awesome. I can't see any club not enocouraging any will students to compete, I bet they'd love it.Are you challenging me?!!!
But seriously I haven't directly asked. I'm so out of shape, that I'm focusing on being able to get through a couple 5 minute rolls.
I discovered an old friend trains at my gym and he competes so they do have students entering competition, though I'm not sure what the expectations are before representing the gym.

Hoping tomorrow is a better day so I can get back to it.
