Just show up and have fun. Roll with a purpose between now and then- don’t give up positions and look for finishes. Learn a takedown if you don’t feel comfortable with your stand up currently.Just signed up for my first tourney. It's an in-house and they usually have good turn out with other local clubs coming over.

Be first, don't let your opponent set the tempo of the match.... If you're in a spot that you don't like, fight to get out (don't just be a dead body accepting your fate).... Above all, have fun, breathe, relax, and be cautiously aggressive..... Remember, there are only 2 outcomes of the match, you'll either win or lose, and it will be by either a submission or points..... The outcome is set, make sure that you're on the right side of it.Just signed up for my first tourney. It's an in-house and they usually have good turn out with other local clubs coming over.

You guys base your game around points or subs?Be first, don't let your opponent set the tempo of the match.... Kill or be killed, I'm ALWAYS sub hunting..... That said, I'm aware of the points, and try not to give up anything easy.... But always go for the finishYou guys base your game around points or subs?

Ditto. My goals are takedown, dominant position, submission. Points will come as you work towards those goals.Kill or be killed, I'm ALWAYS sub hunting..... That said, I'm aware of the points, and try not to give up anything easy.... But always go for the finish
Points definitely, and I think that's why I do pretty well at comps. You guys base your game around points or subs?
The majority of feedback I've been given is focus on points and the subs will follow generally speaking.Points definitely, and I think that's why I do pretty well at comps.
I would probably struggle in a sub only comp. I've only managed one sub in like my last 7 competitions.
it something I need to work on, a weakness of mine is not being able to finish from dominant positions as often as I would like to
If you don't have a go to take down, then go ahead and pull guard. It will save you a lot of energy, and will give you more time to recover if something goes wrong. I prefer most to start on top if possible, but us Masters need to conserve as much energy as possible.Just signed up for my first tourney. It'll all depends on who I'm up against. I'm not overly confident in any TDs as of now unless I feel i have a good strength advantage. Once we get grips I'll be able to make the call I guess. If you don't have a go to take down, then go ahead and pull guard. Silver is still not too shabby- good work. Between now and your next competition, force yourself to start standing and shoot takedowns. 2 things will happen- 1) you will get better at wrestling, 2) you will get better at securing a better defensive position as you get taken down or thrown by a better wrestler.Silver at the IBJJF London open. Lost to Braulio estimas little brother in the final by 2 advantages.
Really unhappy with my performances. In the match prior to this, the guy knew i was going to pull guard, it was embarrassing, i barely grabbed a grip and flopped to the ground only to receive a penalty. He then double legged me as i was desperately trying to pull guard. I ended up taking his back in the last 40 seconds and pulled a win out of somewhere.
my wrestling sucks
My Stand up in the gi sucks
My passing some times sucks
So many flaws in my game it actually makes me sad :/
Ill be back for the Paris open and also be doing the euros but i have a LOT to improve on. Physically, mentally and technically.
I hear you. In the no gi my defensive wrestling is actually great. Im slippery and hard to take down, in the gi however , i get dropped on my ass straight awaySilver is still not too shabby- good work. Hahaha, YES!!! You've hit the plateau, you're at the point where you love BJJ so much that you HATE it... This is a GREAT thing.Silver at the IBJJF London open. Lost to Braulio estimas little brother in the final by 2 advantages.

It's time to evolve. If i want to be the best i can be, i need to start being honest with myselfHahaha, YES!!! You've hit the plateau, you're at the point where you love BJJ so much that you HATE it... This is a GREAT thing.
You'll go through phases where the guys you were smoking all of a sudden start beating you.... The things you could set up and catch with ease, all of a sudden stop working.... And you will feel like you're in a hole..... Stay at it, but don't frustrate yourself, these moments are good for you, stay your course, and I guarantee the best results will happen.... Why? Two reasons, first, people naturally get better and harder to catch, and second, you're not doing anything that they don't expect of you..... So now, you implement new areas of your game..... Drill drill drill new stuff, work on what you feel is a weakness, work on all your defense and transitions, work on your guard passing...... You've done this enough, like I tell my team, the hardest part in competition is takedowns and guard passing (so don't get discouraged).
Don't beat yourself up over it, you need these moments, and know that if you don't get frustrated and want to quick at least 2 times a year, you're not training hard enough LOL
That's the key, no matter how long you've been training, you always have to push and continue to improve. The gym is where you should lose 90% of your matches trying to improve your weak areas, during competition training, be honest and go harder and try to lose less, tournaments be undefeated. It's time to evolve. If i want to be the best i can be, i need to start being honest with myself

Good luck!I am stepping in as a late replacement (just happened today) at Sirius Grappling 2 in Little River (essentially Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) Saturday night. Should be a fun time! There should be a live stream at the Sirius Grappling Facebook page, event starts at 5, I am slated to be the 8th match of the night.
