Because GSP is old dude. He was getting tired in the second round juiced at 36.
Now he's older, and no one has ever finished or beaten Askren. This includes dangerous guys like Lima and Koreshkov.
Askren isn't getting finished by GSP AT ALL at this point, so in a 5-rounder, which I assume it would be, Ben would out-gas him winning the later rounds.
5 years ago I'd have to go with GSP.
Both guys last fight was November of 2017. One of them took 3+ years off, moved up in weight and faced the current champ. During the fight he wobbled him with a superman punch, dropped him with a beautiful left hook, pounded on him for a while them choked him out. The other guy beat a former FW coming off a loss.

Can anyone name any other fighter besides Lima and Koreshkov to pump Bens tires?

I still can't get over the whole "trade" aspect of this
Me too, the UFC has made it a clear point to say that the fighters aren't employees, rather subcontractors.... They are trading subcontractors to other organizations (all other major sports are under one governing body, not MMA).... It's like telling a subcontracted plumber on a construction site that now he's working as an electrician..... Or you traded them from a job site in LA to a site in NYC..... You can't do that (mostly because those guys have unions to protect from that). Hell all other major sports have players unions to ensure a fair market deal is happening with those trades (even the league offices have to approve it)..... MM could as a FA negotiate a higher paying deal with One FC, but technically he'd be locked into his current contract.

I don't get how any of this is possible.... ErikMagraken @ErikMagraken if you have any insight, please let us know

This likely isn’t a ‘trade’ in the conventional sense. In all likelihood all the parties worked out a stand alone deal which included the fighters consent. That said, the UFC have this ‘trade’ clause as standard language on their contracts. Fighters really need to organize and take back some collective leverage.

No. Zuffa are still the legal owners of the UFC. Its simply that the legal owners of Zuffa have changed.
Ahh okay. How is it legal that zuffa have the right to terminate a contract whenever they like yet a fighter who signed the deal cannot, if they are independent contractors?

Because fighters sign shitty contracts. And will continue to do so unless they collectively take some leverage back.

That's what I'm getting at tho. I know califoCali is an at will state. My employers could fire me on the spot and likewise I could quit if I wanted too. I never understood how they can be stuck to the UFC and not just rip up thier contracts and say fuck off

This is definitely not a "trade" in the exact meaning of the word. They worked separate deals with one helping the other by having the MM-Hume connection. Now it's announced as a "trade" because it sounds much cooler - and in a broader sense it is a trade after all.

IMO it's a good deal for everybody. I'm pretty sure MM will end up facing someone out of the muay thai legends that ONE has been signing lately.

It will be great move for MM. He's like a big scary Bob Sapp out there. But he fights better.

Anyone have a highlight reel for Askren. I admittedly, dont know much about him. I used to love the pride ones of Crocop and Fedor. Can wild or splinty make a sticky for a different fighter once a month with a highlight reel attached?

That's a great idea but the object makes it impossible to pull off this one specifically.

There is no such thing as a "Ben Askren highlight". Go to your closet, pick up a blanket, toss it in the ground, keep staring at it - that's a Ben Askren "highlight"

Pretty spot on. While he is incredibly talented, he just grinds everyone into the canvas. Although, TBH, that can be fun in its own right just because of how dominant it always is.

Isn't the onefc champ DJ's training partner bibiano fernendes?
Would be a great fight but I wouldn't of thought they would want to fight each other.

I didn't know they were teammates but I believe Bibi is not at ONE anymore.

If my wife’s boyfriend wasn’t stronger than me, I would beat the shit of him. It would be a pleasure. I hate him.
