Massive Andy nuthugger here. Love the guy to death but he shouldn't have taken this fight. Wish he'd KOed bisping and retired. He needs to stop this insanity. Don't want to see him in there looking like Chuck.

Could we get you vs. Haulport @Haulport on the undercard? You both surely have hands of stone! That match-up intrigues me more than Style Bender beating down Spider.

He's only 5 fights into his 10 fight deal, lol. I'm guessing he'll come pretty close to finishing that contract. Two fights ago he stepped up and fought cormier on 2 days notice. He's a long way from being shot like chuck.

Anderson only has 1 KO/TKO (being knocked out, not a leg injury TKO) in his career.

Always a fighter who will dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge strikes rather than eating a shot to counter punch like Chuck would.

It would be a massive disappointment. I'd probably Kevin Randleman myself getting into the cage and the fight would be called a NC.........

That is if I didn't gas out on the way there and lose by TKO (exhaustion)...

This is FUCKED up.... Almost predatory behavior.... Dana damn well knows that Silva won't win, so he's basically sacrificing him to build a young name. And let's say that he does per chance win... Now you're going to let him jump a line of top contenders to get a shot... Which will either piss off those contenders, OR lead to Dana going back on his word to Silva pissing off him.... Either way, does nothing to quell the bad blood between the promotion and it's fighters. Bad play

I don't think the old Spider is as helpless in this matchup as everybody makes it out to be. of course Adesanya is the big favorite but at the same time let's remember he is not the striking God that he looks like in the ufc. he got beat by average dutch kickboxer Jason Wilnis and KTFO by Alex Pereira not too long ago.

so far he's been able to make guys freeze with feints and some unorthodox combos that won't work as easily on Anderson. having said that, I do admit he is a clear cut favorite. this is just a way of covering myself both ways - if Adesanya wins, I can say "yeah I said he was the favorite"; if Anderson wins I can say "I told you so, Adesanya is not that good".

In the threads linked below you can catch me saying "I believe a Derek Brunson would smother (Adesanya)" and we saw how that turned out but I still have my reservations because strikers much better than him had big trouble transitioning to mma.

Am I the only one who sees Anderson being good enough to avoid getting
obliterated on the feet long enough to clinch and get Izzy to the ground where
he will have a huge jitz advantage?

Everyone is assuming Spider will stand with his ass...

Anderson has a far better chance standing with Izzy then Izzy will have
on the ground with Anderson.

I think Anderson has the striking skills to avoid getting lit up long enough to dominate
Izzy on the ground.

I don't see this being a cake walk for Izzy at all

Anderson is a promising young up-and-comer. I hope they don't push him to soon.
I'd hate to see the same thing happen to Anderson that happened to Sage.

I doubt Anderson will do that but it would be a very smart strategy. iirc he has a background in judo. he could wait for the right moment, score a trip takedown and threaten with a sub. Most likely he will be proud of his striking skills and look to make it a matrix-boxing match though.

I wanted to write the same thing. These kind of matches somehow never seem to turn out in the "smart way". Although, I'm kinda surprised myself but the only example that I can think of right now on the spot was when Roy Nelson would not take Mark Hunt to the ground..
(Ronda doesn't count as she didn't sport any high-level striking credentials going into her last 2 fights. ... Although, yes, I did enjoy the outcome : )

And if Conor connects his left on Mayweather... And if Brock takes down Cain... And if BJ is motivated... And if CM Punk.... Point is, there are great hypothetical "What if's?" that we MMA fans can riff on for HOURS.... But none of them should come to pass.

Truth is, you have a 40+ year old fighter, who is definitely on the downside of his career, that you'd HOPE can catch lighting in a bottle for one last time..... Against a young dynamic striker who is about to reach his prime.... And you're hoping that Silva, who has NEVER been a good wrestler, can wrestle him down..... It's highly unlikely.

Noted. I'm not hoping Silva does anything though. I don't particularly care who wins.
I just don't think Silva is gonna get washed by Izzy while Izzy doesn't break a sweat.

I'm not seeing an easy cakewalk for him

Why do you think it is so bad?

You have to build young fighters off older names. Thats how we create
a future generation of Anderson Silvas. I don't view this as sacrificing Anderson.

Its just how nature works. The old alpha of the pack eventually gets beaten
by the young alphas coming up. Its for the longevity of the sport.

Izzy would be the perfect person to carry The Spider's torch if he wins

He's built like him... kinda moves like him... has swag like him...

Izzy would be the one guy you'd want to take out Anderson and carry the torch.

I almost never agree with Egg but I think he got this one right. Now rather
he got it right by manipulating Anderson for his own selfish reasons I can't say

Yeah if he could "matrix" a bit, clinch and get his ass to the ground we are talking
an entirely different fight. Izzy's takedown defense was excellent in his last fight
against Brunson though... but he also had zero respect for Brunson's stand up.

He can't do that with Anderson. Spider may be able to bate his ass into a striking
match and while Izzy is focused on striking take his ass down and strangle him.

I think this is gonna be a good fight for some reason.

Spider has some tricks up his sleeve.

I agree in part, Alpha Silva was knocked off his perch by the young upcoming Weidman, after that it showed that his days as a top champion were done, it didn't mean at that time he wasn't a top fighter.... Fast forward past his last few performances, and we see that he's not a top contender..... Father time has caught up to him (and the long layoffs don't help either).

For these older fighters, put them against other legends, respect them and honor their legacy, don't put them against these young bulls and let them get erradicated (which we see more often than not). Silva has a few years left fight professionally, he's not going to be a champion, nor fight 3-4 times a year... Why set him up to be embarrassed by a guy who has been KO-ing opponents like he was in a video game? Silva was dropped by Bisping for Christ's sake, this isn't a good fight to make.... They're going to sell it on nostalgia, based on what Silva DID.... Not on what he's currently doing.

Adesanya has been proving me wrong everytime in MMA and if he KOs Anderson like that I'll just shut the fuck up. But I doubt it will play out like that. Those feints and angles won't work as easily on Old Spider. Brunson looked like he'd never seen a straight right off a round kick for example. I don't think Anderson will just freeze there getting beat up like the other guys Adesanya faced so far,
