Unreal that he not only didn't get dropped by those barrage of punches, but honestly, he really only seemed to get wobbled once. Max's pressure (and about 500 landed shots) zapped his cardio and obviously hurt him, but what a chin (and heart) on that dude.

Yep.

I like to differentiate the ability to absorb a punch from the ability to recover from one.

Hendo and Edgar are the type of guys you think about that have the greatest 'chins' of all time if we are talking about the latter. But if we are talking the former, I think prime Mark Hunt is the GOAT but Ortega might already be the P4P GOAT.

Nothing tires you out more than getting punched repeatedly in the head. Max was also throwing beautiful body shots and that shit builds up.

I’m glad it was stopped before the fifth. Sometimes dudes are just too fucking tough for their own good.

towel should have been thrown in midway through the 4th. Ortega was outclassed and too tough for his own good.

Brian is tough as nails man, he even brought it hard in the 3rd Round, landed some great shots on Max in that 3rd Round.

He’s one of those guys that may be to tough for their own good, I know if I’m cornering him I would have thrown the towel in ..in that 4th Round...the 4th was just a beat down ..walking punching bag.

I was disappointed Rener wanted the fight to continue, great Octagon Doc called the fight.

TCity still has a lot of upside but this fight will take its damage on him similar to how Rory was a bit different after the war with Lawlor.

it's always been my feeling that Brian's chin is too good for his own good. Max is a tough matchup, because Max hits hard for the division and really knows how to use his height to make striking length. He's also 'stiff volume' puncher, less likely to wing power shots and let his opponent inside.

I hope Brian takes a long break and lets his brain recover fully from the trauma before getting back to work. And when he gets back to work, more work on footwork. Head movement starts with the feet...

BTW - I didn't hear Rener trying to keep the fight going, what did he say? I heard Rener asking for the Dr to talk to Brian. From the looks of how fast that eye swelled, I'm guessing a facial fracture - orbital floor maybe.

Thanks but that is not the skills attribute I intended to display nor do I want
to put on display again - T City

great chin but not sure if it'll stay the same after tonight
You make a hell of a point.
I'm glad they stopped it. He's also very lucky he has Rener in his corner
and someone that cares about him differently then the way Raquell's
corner cared about her.

He will not be the same after this fight. The only question is how much of himself
did he leave in that cage. Just a little or did he leave a big chunk like Rory
left in the Lawler fight?

I also think he was ready for that to be over. He didn't jump up and down
and protest from what I saw.

He would have kept going despite knowing it was over cuz thats just who he is.

Thank his corner and the officials for doing the right thing for Brian

His ability to take shots like he did last night may be altered after that fight, but he may also improve significantly as a fighter as well & used this as a lessons learned on how to avoid those same type of shots (or getting into fire fights) in the future.

Yeah I think he's young enough for this to make him better.
He just ran into a stand up game that was a step above his level
or anything he was used to.

Now he knows what that next level is

Wrestling and takedowns should be a huge priority so he can get fights like last night to the ground when nddded.

I really think that fighters need to work on those sneaky trips like Lyoto uses on occasion and Valentina used last night. They don't require as much pure strength (although that helps) and they're generally harder to defend because of how random they can be mixed in. Definitely easier to accomplish in the middle of the cage instead of always ending up against the fence if you haven't perfectly set up a double or single.

And if he gets one of those slick trips down and lands in side control which is often the case then it's going to be a very bad time for most opponents.
