Joanne Calderwood went out at the first UFC ESPN show and completely delivered. But that’s not going to get her a 125-pound title shot yet, according to Dana White.

Calderwood turned in the best performance of her UFC career in her dispatching Ariane Lipski by unanimous decision on Saturday night, and politely asked for her shot at the title or current top contender, Jessica Eye, in her post-fight interview. However, it appears that Eye has already been tapped for a title fight with champion Valentina Shevchenko. Here’s what White had to say at the post-fight press conference about it.

“Lipski, coming off a nine-fight win…

White: Despite Calderwood’s ‘perfect’ performance, Eye is next for Shevchenko

4-5 with 1 NC in the UFC and getting a title shot. Her last 7 here.

Good Lord, this just proves how thin the Flyweight division is.
Or it proves the rumors that Jessica is slurping up Dana's driveway skeet-skeets.........

well its a brand new division, and only three fighters in the division are 3-0, Jess and JoJo, hell, even the champ is only 2-0

And she just beat the girl that going into the weekend was ranked 3rd in the unified wmma rankings, and 7th in the world on FightMatrix

So technically, based on results they are top of the queue (Although I think Carmouche should be there or thereabouts)

but, those four losses were at 135 where she was badly outsized

Val destroys her, but, she is 3-0 at flyweight (and had a superb flyweight record prior to joining the UFC)

Two being SD and the other a UD. I'm not saying she's not worthy just that the division is shallow as it gets. Losing four in a row to girls who you feel were simply too big then to eek out three decisions to girls more her size isn't needle moving unfortunately.

not so much shallow, theres plenty of fighters that will get title shots in time, Carmouche is a beast, Maia will recover from her initial jitters, and plenty of young fighters that will come through. its just really early days in the division, everyone is only 2 wins away from a title shot

bear in mind, even the champ only has 2 wins at 125

You’re making a good argument, but Eye just doesn’t do it for me. I just have no interest in the match up because i expect her to get dominated.

I have a good question why the hell is Jessica Eye still in the UFC ? And since when do you get a title shot with 3 split decisions in a row ?
Why is WMMA still in the ufc in the first place tho lol
