UFC president Dana White has been candid about making mixed martial arts as a sport that is big enough to rival other leagues like the NFL or the NBA. Even before the company’s deal with ESPN was finalized, White was already expecting MMA to be “taken to the next level” through this new broadcast partnership.

But for Colby Covington, getting to that level of prominence would not be possible, as he once again connected it to him being passed over for a title shot against Tyron Woodley.

He needs to be careful what he wishes for. In those other leagues, he would have been suspended for more than a few of the things he's said in the past. The legitimacy of those other leagues would not take kindly to his form of promotion.

I agree but in those leagues self promotion isn't really something you'd need to do with how much they pay in comparison.

He's doing exactly what they wanted him to do but he went over the line by not being a good boy (see cruz, florian et al)...
