Right after Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title with a win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 last December, he immediately turned his attention to rival Daniel Cormier. “DC”, however, does not seem interested in dropping back down to 205 pounds, as he nears his planned retirement date by his 40th birthday on March 20th.

UFC president Dana White wants a trilogy to happen down the line, and when asked what Jones thought about it, he had this to say.

“Bring out the checkbook, Dana,” Jones told MMAFighting.com’s Marc Raimondi. “Let’s make it happen. I’ll definitely do it for the right number. I’ll definitely do it.”

Jones had already beaten Cormier at…

It’ll happen, guaranteed. DC is too competitive to turn it down.

I hope so.. I think DC has a better chance to beat him at HW.
I think DC at HW has the advantage but father time is real and is only lessening the advantages for DC as time goes on.

While I agree DC is very competitive, I wouldn't put it past DC to turn it down for fear of Jones fucking up YET AGAIN and making the fight not happen. DC is pretty adament about not fighting beyond 40

he's talked about going to heavyweight before, which confirms that he believes that his body is capable of fighting competitively over 205.

he has already beaten daniel twice, last time knocking the guy** out. if he wants to avoid fighting him again at a weight that would be in his favour by a slight margin, seems dishonourable.

**oops apologies, original wording was regional term of endearment for someone who gets beaten up/in a lopsided match

This gif has nothing to do with the topic but I am tired of all the Jones talk so...

Not enough picograms in his system for him to go to HW. If I were DC I'd only accept it at HW and I'd put it in my contract that I'd have access to Jones' tests and that they need to be clean for 3 months straight through to the fight.

This is nonsense, what weight class does Jones think he'll fight Brock Lesnar at?
Exactly. He was right up for that. Regardless of how good he was, DC at 205 takes a lot of dieting and weight cutting, I mean look at what his physique looks like at 205. DC for the sake of his health and the fact that he really doesn’t have anything to prove he should stay at Hw. When I say he has nothing to prove I mean people win and lose in this game, losing to jones twice doesn’t take away all the crazy shit he has done in this sport. Let’s not forget SF and how he ragdolled Josh Barnett.

Jones walks around at 240 lbs, ffs.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; the LHW division is redundant.
That about his max so far though right? I'm reading anywhere from 220-240.

His 220 days were in and around 2010. Ie, the interview you quoted was in the lead up to his 2011 fight against Machida. The other stuff you're posting (238 in his grappling match against Hendo) is since his power lifting days. There's no reason he can't fight the 245 lbs DC (or any other HW) other than the fact that he doesn't want to.

Imagine a 6'4 cruiserweight (used to be called 'junior heavyweight' which is the right name for 200 and 205 in the UFC) boxer who weighed 235 pounds and never fought at HW being called the greatest of all time. It would be laughable.

The 205 division exists for those who are too scared to fight the big boys. They are almost all big enough to fight at HW. Just look at DC, he's fucking 5'11.

Until Jones fights at HW he is just the king of the juniors.

If Brock doesn't agree to fight in July vs DC, then I'd bet we see Jones vs DC at HW.
They will pay what is needed to make the fight

DC has nothing to gain by taking the fight. He should take another HW fight and retire. He has a claim as one of the best HWs in history and was also one of the best LHWs in history. Jones has no incentive to ever be clean, so DC should just let that one go.
