So says UFC President Dana White, who announced Thursday night that former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington needs to fight his way back into contention.

“Colby now is going to have to fight again and earn the spot to get back,” White said during a Facebook Live chat with the Las Vegas Review-Journal following a UFC 235 press conference.

Where do I even begin laying blame on the total shitshow that is the welterweight championship?

Is it UFC just intent on making belts absolutely worthless? Is that an actual goal?

Wins interim title, 6 fight win streak and last loss was a little over 3 years ago. Who would sense to fight? Till?

Hilarious. Colby opens his mouth and Danus is like oh yeah you think you’re smart, back down the ladder.

Colby either backs up his talk asks for his release or takes it and tries to sound tough.

The 'belts being worthless' argument is valid, but this is an incredibly poor example to use to make it.

Because the interim belt already was worthless once Tyron started defending again. How the fuck would it be anything other than meaningless at that point?

Are you suggesting that a real belt and an interim belt co-exist and be defended simultaneously? Because that sure would help the title legitimacy you're worried about.

To be worried about the legitimacy of an interim title, which are in fact the very illegitimate things that are the primary cause of undermining the legitimacy of real belts, is perhaps the most contradictory, self-defeating argument I've ever heard.

Then what are you whining about? Colby's fake belt serves no purpose if that's the case.

If you are complaining that Colby shouldn't have to fight anyone else, that's fine, but that's got nothing to do with belt legitimacy.

The UFC is taking a stand here and I think it's good for us consumers. They've been rewarding bad behavior by letting guys sit out and wait for title shots. It's bad for business.

I still support guys who tell the UFC to fuck off but only because of the level of pay exploitation. But in a perfect world, they'd have tremendous pay, but no matchmaking power.

all they have to do is start calling it the intercontinental title and everything would be just fine

I think if they open a 165-lb division, they should just give the belt to Colby

don't waste time trying to differentiate incompetence from malfeasance.
