grew up on a farm.

i can back 3 grain wagons around a silo.
ain't braggin'. just sayin'.
U gotta think backwards...some folks are not capable
does 3 grain wagons mean 3 separate hitches?
that would be thinking backwards 3 times, I wanna try that one

I would add a rear weighted trailer can even make your rear vehicle tires have less weight on the ground and even less control...even popping the ball off the hitch.

I drive heavy equipment around sometimes (excavators etc...) trailer load is crucial for safety
Agree with you wholeheartedly, Taking the weight off the rear wheels will happen, I was keeping it on the "every day Joe" side of things.

Even heavy items on the bottom of the load help keep things safe

You'll be in for huge surprise with a full load if you unlock that ball and your not tongue heavy

Ya I get that you were keeping it simple...was just commenting on the fact that there are actually a lot of forces at work to think about

In my youth I let others park machinery on the trailer and I just drove it from A to B...I have learned the hard way to never assume your load is safe or well thought out...I would kick the operator(I also operate) off and park it myself where I want it once I learned the hard way to never trust another to load your trailer.

I have had trailer pop off ball...rear wheels of a dually almost off the ground because excavator too far back and truck too light...toungue of trailer fly up when released and almost kill a man/fool...dangerous stuff...one time I saw a trailer with boat on it going 60 in the grass next to the freeway after it broke loose(not my load luckily)lol.

That is why I tell people to never feel safe on freeway next to or near people towing loads...you never know the experience or intelligence of the loader/driver

yep.

and they're wagons, not trailers. So you're pushing a steerable axle.

how the hell does that work?
how do you control the 3 axles?
well, if you're doing lots of little turns, you're fucked.
You have to line up the rear axle of each wagon, and then push with the tractor axle at the same angle.

nice
I think I get it
axles don't lock but if you get them on same angles you can maintain the angle with minutes movements keeping approx the same angle with the tractor

We rented a bigger truck (F250 super cab) to get my boat out of storage and haul it to the new house. Half way there I see this guy pass us in an SUV with two mattresses on top of his car. About 50 feet later the STRING (he was using FUCKING HOME DEPOT TWINE!) snaps and it stays only tethered like a broken kite to his suv. Its bouncing like a meth head over both lanes. My wife is yelling and my ass pucker up so tight I might have taken a chunk outta the seat. Slowwww breaking and the luck of the irish is the only thing that kept us off the evening news that night.

One tip I got early on from Grandpa was that when you back something up, turn yourself

And I never went far. I could swing that for 50', but I can't take it down the road like that. :)

Best tip I got on backing things up was when Grandpa told me to turn around, reach my hand out, and pretend i was picking up the tongue with my hand.

Then turn the wheel to move your arm.

I like that one, good grandpa

I had one that I used to teach myself
I worked at was member of a construction co-op,(profit sharing/loss sharing) holy train wreck and fun times

So we had all types of people trying to drive all types of vehicles...some guys were really good and skilled(humblebrag), and others were horrible to potato(one guy blew two six pack transmissions at once pulling a hydroseeder)

For those who wanted to attempt backing and wanted a tip I would say ...

-look back there at the rear of your trailer in mirror or over shoulder
-small movements only with the wheel and gas pedal
-imagine the trailer is pulling the truck
-make your truck follow in it's trailer's tracks

Probably confused the hell out of most of em...but the ones that got it thought it was a perfect tip...some guys jackknife and blame me
usually I would just do it for em(some of co op didn't even speak english)

Most people can figure that out pretty quickly as the trailer tells you if you fucked up right away.
It's when they try to follow the trailer that most people quickly get confused, usually because they make way too big of a correction with the wheel and quickly get out of sorts.

I had no idea this was a thing either.
I can't even think of a way it could happen. Maybe they go in too hot and the ramp has moss on it so when they slam on the brakes they just keep sliding?

I did some research. This is generally what causes it. Ramp slime.

The general consensus on launching a boat is to do it while in neutral and to go as slow as possible down the ramp. If you leave the transmission in reverse, as many people tend to do, you are fighting both gravity and the engine. Plus this leaves the possibility of having your wet shoe slip off the brake peddle and slam on the accelerator.

But even while in neutral and slowly backing the trailer into the water, it's still not uncommon for the tires to lose traction if the slime buildup on a launching ramp is particularly bad. The vehicle generally slides until the boat hits the water and starts to float, which alleviates the gravity pull on the tow vehicle.
