I am asking for a second opinion.
I was assisting a friend move some furniture items he had stored in his basement to a moving truck.
A couple of couches and lazy-boys and tables.
Stuff that was too heavy or awkward to move alone.
He says he couldn't find anyone else to help him.
So I get there and I started to take off my boots. It's winter and there is snow etc all over and his wife says, "Oh don't worry about that."
I tell her that they are full of snow and dirt from his driveway though, but she assures me that she will clean it up and thanks me again for helping as she has wanted this stuff out of the basement for a year.
The entire time we are moving my friend is thanking me because his wife has been complaining for months about the stuff and wants to use the space but he has been unable to find the people to help him move and she doesn't want to hire movers. So he borrowed a friend's truck and got me to help him finally.
So fast forward to today and his wife calls me and says that she paid a cleaning service to come in and clean up the space after since it was a mess from the storage and me helping move. She wants me to pay some of the cleaning costs since I messed it up moving the stuff out.
I told her no, that I said I would take my shoes off and she told me that I should not and that I was doing this for free.
She starts to explain that I am obligated to pay since I made some of the mess and so I told her that if that is the case then she is obligated to pay me for my moving time. if she would like I can bill her for that and told her to call a moving company and ask what the cost for one man is, minus the truck, and then subtract that from the cleaning costs before she bills me.
She says I don't have to get rude to her and then hangs up.
About 10 mins later her husband, my "friend" is at my door asking me what I said to his wife to make her angry? He's not the kind of guy to be ready to throw down and I can see his genuinely wanting to know.
So I tell him.
He literally shakes his head. He came over he says because she smashed the cell phone after my call and he couldn't call me back. She's angry and says he is never to hang out with me anymore.
He apologized and left but said we'll still see each other but I probably won't be invited over anymore.
I'm not upset because I was his last friend who comes over anymore and his wife said it at a dinner she had for my Wife and I when we visited a while ago. His wife says she is upset that none of their friends are decent enough people to come over for dinner when invited anymore.
Sooo...thoughts?
