Meltzer reported on his overnight audio that ESPN is paying UFC a yearly guarantee, so UFC does not need to worry regarding certain PPV's doing less than others.
After an x-amount of PPV's are sold they will do a split.

ESPN is doing this to build ESPN+ and will be promoting these PPV's & UFC in full force.

In a nutshell, there is no longer a PPV split for every PPV

I'm out of here with this one ...

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Endeavor has been rumored to take UFC public. Even the possibility of Endeavor itself.

So, they wanted guaranteed money projected for the next 7 years instead of the non guarantee of PPV.
They also wanted Dana's deal to coincide with ESPN (ESPN loves Dana)

So now if they go public, the figure to do so at a higher price since they are guaranteed huge money for 7 years with a yearly revenue of over a billion in reach within a few years

New UFC/ESPN+ PPV deal looks to hurt the main event fighters

WME don't make deals that hurt them financially, so you know they are getting a nice deal from ESPN to give them the exclusive PPV rights in US.

There is no chance that each PPV won't do a lot fewer purchases being exclusive to a subscription stream.

We know by UFC filings that have been reported that UFC only pays 13-17% of rev to fighters.

but the big money was in PPV points.
Now that PPV buys will be even lower than they were becoming each year, that really hurts the fighters with PPV points.

UFC will be getting a bigger cut to most likely make up the PPV sale difference and I wouldn't doubt that they received a nice amount to extend their US deal 2 more years.

But this deal means fighters on a big card that make decent money with PPV, might not (Conor will certainly, but can others get UFC to pony up more?)

Also the days of each PPV buy getting reported are over.
Meltzer/Nash/Ourand might get the PPV numbers eventually through yearly filings or investor reports, but no more monthly reports on the sales.

On a personal note, I'm going in hospital later today, so I might not post for awhile.
Catch you on the flip-side & have fun
Wish you a speedy recovery man. Cheers!

I buy a few PPV's a year. Usually from my cable company, but sometimes from UFC.com when I'm at work.

It doesn't really matter to me who I pay. I actually like this ESPN move overall because it gets me further away from cable.

I don't need to carry a TV package with FS1 anymore and so far, I'm noticing that ESPN+ is a much more polished product than Fight Pass. It works better and my fights are starting to condense to one product that I actually like.

I'm guessing they won't have much incentive to stack random PPV's like they have been.

Wish some of the UFC's "big news" would be something actually for the fans. They seem to have forgotten that this a spectator sport.

Well done, Hollywood talent agents. You've bent ESPN over in this deal.

God knows how ESPN can possibly think they'll end up in the green over this.

I don't see how limiting the number of people who can order their ppvs sounds like a game changing idea.
Its very game changing. Just the opposite of how they meant it.

Now in terms of giving me great reasons, based off logic and facts, to exclusively watch Bellator, grand.

To be fair ...
I heard the audio
Dave just used 500k as a number if 6m PPV's was the ave

the deal with ESPN+ is, they took an average of the amount that UFC made in PPV the last X-amount of years (Dave is not sure the exact years) & guaranteed UFC that amount.

Not sure what has been covered or not, but since I been laid up, I been emailing people a lot on this & have a lot of info

so if there are any Q's, tag me & I'll see if I know

FrankieNYC @FrankieNYC how do you think this affects the payday of PPV golden boy Conor McGregor?

It changes EVERYTHING & I think a big part of this whole 'retirement' was his way to get paid is very different now.
A few days before the ESPN+ announcement, he was discussing fighting again soon.
Days after the ESPN+ announcement, he retires lol

The Khabib fight paid Conor over 80% of his reported take from backend (PPV points)

If UFC PPV does 50% of what it would have done on traditional PPV in 2019, I think its a lot.

The Khabib/Conor fight did 1.9m buys traditional & 500k non-traditional

So lets bump that up to 25% of the buys were i-ppv (streamed)

That is 75% that now have to buy through ESPN+ & stream that chose not to stream.
