oxalic acid is a chelation agent. it is not strong like hydroflouric/nitric combo based wheel cleaners that do attack the finish. chelators attract the iron oxide and leave the metal alone. this is the same way evaporust works
I tried finding the vid with the Oz guy. No beans. He used 3 different acids I think. He also used baking soda in one of the experiments.

I was gonna ask if this would work on my stovetop drip pans but besides the fact that it would be cheaper just to replace the pans, I'm gonna try a baking soda/vinegar solution I saw on YouTube.

Those round things under the burners? The Evapo-Rust is around $26 per gallon. It's just a math issue. Not sure how much those cost. You can reuse the stuff if the rust isn't too bad. If you don't have room it's a pain to store. Vinegar is suppose to work but slow and not as well. You could probably get away with a quart or half gallon if you did 1 or 2 at a time.

Yeah they're like $2 apiece so four of them would cost less than a bottle of evaporust.

There is a lot of old cheap rust removal tricks you can try with things you probably have at home

Sprinkle a little bit of salt on the rust, then squeeze the lime over the salt until it is soaking. Let the mixture sit for 2-3 hours and then remove the rust with the lime rind. This can also be done with a lemon. We like the salt and lime a little more because they double as margarita ingredients as well.

Vinegar Soak
White Vinegar
Baking Soda + Water
Hydrogen Peroxide

all work well with a little effort

Is the vinegar soak something different than white vinegar?
