Yes. Thats the OP. Memo leaked from RTE. It came from good sources, but there's always a concern that it is fabricated. Now RTE themselves has confirmed the memo leak is authentic from them.

So confirmed, to RTE's knowledge, the "Irish Sports Star" under investigation is Conor McGregor.

News is consistent in that a woman was beat, sexually assaulted, and there are witnesses. All mainstream news state that police consider there to be a physical evidence of some kind.

Anymore detail than that comes from Irish whatsapp which has, in the past, been a hot bed of early news breaking and misinformation.
So with this confirmation shouldn't one of the many hard-hitting MMA "journalists" be primed to ask the UFC about it....?

Irish Police Investigating Conor McGregor Over Sex Assault Accusation Irish Police Investigating Conor McGregor Over Sex Assault Accusation

DUBLIN — Conor McGregor, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s biggest star and one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, is under investigation in Ireland after a woman accused him of sexual assault in December, according to four people familiar with the investigation.

McGregor has not been charged with a crime. Following the usual protocol in criminal investigations in Ireland and much of Europe, where a formal charge does not necessarily follow an arrest, McGregor was arrested in January, questioned by law enforcement authorities and released pending further investigation, according to the people.

The allegations have not been proven and the fact that an investigation is continuing does not imply that McGregor is guilty of a crime. A lawyer for McGregor in Dublin did not respond to messages seeking comment.

He has only fought once since 2016, a bout in October that he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and has previously announced a retirement, only to come back.

The woman making the allegation said it occurred at the Beacon Hotel, an establishment attached to a business park on the edge of Dublin. There is little to suggest it would be a haunt for one of Ireland’s best-known sports figures, a multimillionaire with a loyal, global fan base. McGregor is an occasional guest there, usually booking its sole penthouse room, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The last and most recent visit occurred in December.

Irish news media have reported on the case since news of the assault first broke late last year, but without naming McGregor. Laws in Ireland restrict the news media from identifying individuals charged with rape unless they are convicted, which has not happened in this case. News outlets reporting the identity of a suspect before a charge is brought often face costly libel and breach of privacy lawsuits in Ireland. Publication after a charge is filed could lead to a more serious contempt of court indictment.

one of the most lucrative boxing matches ever, losing to the undefeated champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He has also been in the headlines for the wrong reasons, courting controversy since he rose to prominence four years ago. In July, he pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, after he threw a dolly at a bus during a promotional appearance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Two fighters were injured by shattered glass.

In January, McGregor was suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission from fighting for six months and fined $50,000 for his role in a brawl that took place after his defeat to Nurmagomedov in October. Nurmagomedov was barred for nine months and fined $500,000 for his role in the melee.

On March 11, McGregor was arrested in Miami Beach and charged with robbery and criminal mischief after he was accused of stealing a cellphone from someone trying to take his picture. His lawyer described the altercation as minor and said McGregor, who was released after posting bail, would cooperate with the police.

Statement from McGregor's rep:
"This story has been circulating for some time and it is unclear why it is being reported now. The assumption that the Conor McGregor retirement announcement today is related to this rumor is absolutely false. Should Conor fight in the future it must be in an environment where fighters are respected for their value, their skill, their hard work and their dedication to the sport." -Karen Kessler
