I want to preface this by saying that I have been a McGregor supporter since he came into the promotion. What he did in taking over the sport and bringing it mainstream is as impressive a feat that we've seen in the 26 years that the UFC has existed.

But now, I believe it should be over.

What was once a kind-hearted, tongue in cheek troll character has become a dark, dangerous loose cannon who does not fear consequences. He is a great fighter who is an even greater promoter, but now, it all comes with a cost. Conor is known for always wanting to push things further. He is addicted to one-upping himself because that's how he got rich, but if you continue to push his particular style and tactics further and further, you eventually cross a line that shouldn't be crossed.

In my opinion, that line was the bus attack. That's where Conor's antics moved from entertaining to dangerous. Since then, in this rivalry with Khabib that seems to have gotten incredibly real, we have seen what happens when a rocket ship isn't equipped with a parachute with which to land smoothly.

He's loaded rich, and the UFC has flourished off of his charisma. With the direction that the rivalry with Khabib is going, and the potential pending litigation regarding his sexual assault case, I believe it is time for the UFC to begin the Conor McGregor descent. Book the Diaz trilogy, which was more fun anyway, and carried with it a danger that makes you want to watch rather than a danger which makes you pray for peace. Then ride off into the sunset.

Conor McGregor might end up being the most important figure in UFC history, but the UFC needs to step in and make sure this story is a positive, albeit insane, one. The crash and burn will be extraordinarily detrimental, and it should be avoided at all costs.

Tl;DR- McGregor is too dangerous of an asset at this point in time. The UFC should do the Diaz fight, part ways with him and begin building a new era of the promotion with new stars and a different approach that is not centered around one superstar.

Don't think they will, but they should.

Totally agree. He lost already and will keep losing. His style of fights won’t work on the top guys right now. I think he know he had a murderers row in front of him no matter who he fights. His mystique is over, his talk is cheap and not even good anymore, and he isn’t winning anymore.

It's time for the UFC to move on. He created an attention vacuum that made the promotion and himself a lot of money, but given recent situations I think it would be advantageous for them to evolve their brand past him.

he is still a huge a draw but it is now in a train wreck sort of way

When he went to boxing I knew his days of being a beast of a fighter were numbered

Now he is pure cringe

They should, yes.

He is a walking liability at this point. He was even before. He seemingly does everything on impulse with no self control.

Without a doubt those are his two biggest fights to make. The question is whether or not they are worth making. I personally do not think they are, but we know Dana.
If a company wants to make tens of millions off of one card, then it is worth it.
That is why they are in business.

But you mentioned they are centered around Conor.
that is not true.
They made deal after deal to make UFC less reliant on one or two top stars.
Conor makes demands like shares, co-pro, no advance pressers & was denied on all.

If Conor is found not guilty of the situation in Ireland, they would be fools not to try and make more money with him.
If he prices himself out, UFC will still have a record year without him.

UFC will be distancing itself from many fighters with this new PPV pay structure with ESPN. We wont see another fighter get the push McGregor did moving forward.

I agree with basically everything that you said, but they have shown that they are willing to look past some serious infractions to keep him and only him. Had anyone else thrown that dolly, they're gone, so while they are making moves to be less reliant on their cash cow, they still acknowledge his value. His value is real; I am not doubting that at all. I just think that since they have shown that they are moving in a different direction, now is a good time to get one more nut off of him unless he makes big changes in behavior between now and after the next fight. I am sure it is naïve to think that they would walk away from McGregor's earning power, but if he continues on the track that he's on, it might be a good business idea to get out before a catastrophe happens.

Oh they absolutely treat him better than most.
That is not an argument.
That is typical of most businesses.

Brock threw the belt at Vince in a fit of anger last year & no repercussions.
A few years back Vince suspended another wrestler & took him off Mania for this ...

If it turns out he's a rapist, hopefully they just sever immediately.

Otherwise, I'd like to see Nate, Jose Aldo, and Dustin Poirier get their wins back first in that order, at which point he'll hopefully be ready to lose to Khabib as well. Then they can make a catchweight superfight with Anderson Silva, so Silva can retire on a win.

Just like B.J. Penn was kind enough to restore some of Jens Pulver's legacy by going on an even longer losing streak than Pulver ever did, it's time for Penn to pass the torch to Conor.

The ufc will not leave money on the table. Though I agree they should do a big fight the part ways, they simply won't because they want their hand in his pocket. They know he has capability of generating massive revenue in at least one more boxing match (think pacman, canelo, de la hoya etc...) and countless more mma fights. Conor on his own would generate tons of money for himself, should he choose to continue fighting (especially the one boxing fight mentioned before, amd yes, boxing would set it up). Ufc won't let that happen unless they get the lion's share.
