I want to preface this by saying that I have been a McGregor supporter since he came into the promotion. What he did in taking over the sport and bringing it mainstream is as impressive a feat that we've seen in the 26 years that the UFC has existed.

But now, I believe it should be over.

What was once a kind-hearted, tongue in cheek troll character has become a dark, dangerous loose cannon who does not fear consequences. He is a great fighter who is an even greater promoter, but now, it all comes with a cost. Conor is known for always wanting to push things further. He is addicted to one-upping himself because that's how he got rich, but if you continue to push his particular style and tactics further and further, you eventually cross a line that shouldn't be crossed.

In my opinion, that line was the bus attack. That's where Conor's antics moved from entertaining to dangerous. Since then, in this rivalry with Khabib that seems to have gotten incredibly real, we have seen what happens when a rocket ship isn't equipped with a parachute with which to land smoothly.

He's loaded rich, and the UFC has flourished off of his charisma. With the direction that the rivalry with Khabib is going, and the potential pending litigation regarding his sexual assault case, I believe it is time for the UFC to begin the Conor McGregor descent. Book the Diaz trilogy, which was more fun anyway, and carried with it a danger that makes you want to watch rather than a danger which makes you pray for peace. Then ride off into the sunset.

Conor McGregor might end up being the most important figure in UFC history, but the UFC needs to step in and make sure this story is a positive, albeit insane, one. The crash and burn will be extraordinarily detrimental, and it should be avoided at all costs.
I reluctantly have to agree mostly. He has lost his way and his mind.

But a year without McGregor = like half as many PPVs sold as a year with McGregor headlining just 2 events

I personally didn't like saying it either. I held off as long as I could. I still think positively of him, I just don't think he's interested in not pushing his boundaries further continuously.

While true until the ESPN deal, we really don't know what is going to happen with PPV numbers going forward. They also are getting a ton more guaranteed revenue this year. The McGregor bump is made up for in that money, by far.

LoL as much as you haters would love to see Mcgregor fired - it will never happen. Ever.

Dana wants as many red panty nights as he can get - nothing else matters.

Eh
Partially true

If it was completely true they would cave in to his demands & history has show that is not reality

Yep
He has less bargaining tools now

They are going to record break this year without him
As much as a McGregor fight meant, it means less now.
Getting 1m buys on ESPN+ will be very hard to do now.

WME has made UFC much less reliant on stars going forward.

Does ESPN & WME want him?
Hell yeah, but they didn't bend over for him with the Khabib fight & certainly won't now.

The guy does deserve a new deal though since PPV money is less for him.
But can they agree?
