Ryzen 5 1600 is 80$ at microcenter currently and has the -30$ for the motherboard combo. Stellar deal for a killer CPU.

I wouldn’t say a 1st gen mid-tier CPU is an upgrade, but that’s a good combo price.

Now, a 3rd gen Threadripper on the Zen 2 microarchitecture would sure be an upgrade.

Bro.. Majority of you here have older PCs and MANY don't have a CPU that'd compete with a 1600 on any level. It'd definitely be an upgrade for those who don't run like you supposedly do(going by your ridiculous suggestion). The most popular CPU on the market right now is the 2600, a midrange CPU. Just. Sayin.

There's a reason why Ryzen's jumping up in popularity... its like the early 2000s AMD days where they are performing outstandingly.
I never did an AMD build. Always an Intel guy. I'm not a gamer. I build for stability. Not saying AMD isn't stable just saying my needs are different than gamers. It would be fun to do a new build but for my purposes my 4 year old top of the line build back then is still great. I did have to replace the spinners and add a bigger SSD boot drive but everything is good. I still run a RAID lol I probably need to learn NAS at this point.

At microcenter the 1tb SSD is 95$ worth it.
