Going back to 2017, Votto has a MLB-best 0-Swing% of 16.3%. That means he only swung at 16.3% of pitches that were off the plate. Incredible discipline.

But even when the ball was off the plate and he swung, he made contact 77.2% of the time.
I saw somewhere that out of over 6500 ABs he has only popped out 88 times or something ridiculous like that.

Idiot Yankee fan just reached over the wall and interfered with a HR that Gordon was attempting to rob. Umps rule fan interference.

Aaron Boone was ejected seconds later as he predictably lost his shit when they took 3 runs off the board and ruled the play as an out.

A lot of talk today about Pujols passing Ruth on the RBI list. But that's not really true.

RBI wasn't an official stat until 1920, so they are conveniently cutting off Ruth's earlier seasons. But those seasons have been back-tallied and Ruth is 2nd all time behind only Hammerin' Hank Aaron. Pujols is still 221 RBI behind Ruth - which he ain't getting to.

Pujols is only 2 RBI behind Gehrig, although it took Gehrig 5 less seasons to get there (I'm excluding Lou's first 2 years where he only played 23 total games and his last season when he only played 8 due to his illness)

Whenever I make these accumulative charts by season, I'm always amazed at Ted Williams' efficiency. He missed 3 seasons to WW2 and then 2 more due to Korea and an injury (the arrows below point to these missed seasons).

If not for Hitler, Williams is likely your all time RBI leader.

I don't mean to "poo" on Pujols. He's a hell of a hitter for the majority of his career.
But he didn't pass Ruth in RBI. And he isn't going to.

ESPN is fake news.

That was bullshit.

That was bullshit.
Maybe. But probably the right call.
Although ruling that he 100% would have caught it and rewarding the out was strong.

Probably should have been a ground rule double.

I was glad to hear DeGrom's MRI came back negative. I hope he can get back on track. Baseball needs electric arms and he's got one when he's on.

I lol'd at Bryce Harper diva-ing it up yesterday. He made a huge scene after getting tossed for arguing balls & strikes with the ump. He did get fucked on his second strike (clearly) though.

People are Making a big deal out of Buxton getting thrown out yesterday. He hasn't been caught stealing in a couple of years. I think he should run a lot more often. It's nice to have his speed. The other day vs the O's he got the winning run by stealing and tagging up wisely twice. The guy is like a bullet hauling ass around the bags. He's gotta stop crashing into the wall in center though. You can only run into walls full speed so many times before you hurt yourself.

I watched the ending of Field of Dreams last night. What were the ground rules with corn as the home run wall?

  • Does a HR have to clear the first row of corn?
  • Ground rule double if a fly ball doesn't clear the first row of corn?
  • What if an outfielder catches a fly, runs into the corn and leaves the field of play? We gonna be cool with that?
  • After harvest, is the old "wall" still honored or is there just no end to the outfield?

End of the season is 9/29.
172 days would be 4/10.

Rays are at Toronto on 4/12 for a 3 game weekend series. That's my prediction.
I missed it by 2 weeks.
Vlad Jr has been called up and will join the club tomorrow, 4/26.
He's 20 years old.

In 4 seasons of minor league ball he has a slash of .331/.414/.529
43 HRs in 287 games. I'm very impressed by his walk (165) to strikeouts (158) to hits (354) stats. That tells me he has a great eye and doesn't chase bad balls. Obviously the quality of pitching he's about to be exposed to is going to improve tremendously, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Blue Jays are 11-14.

A couple of tidbits about the kid

  • Born in Canada
  • His god fathers: Pedro Martinez & Andres Galaraga (both former Expos)
His dad was a scary hitter. The guy swung like he wanted to murder the ball. I think junior will do well as a pro. Sean Casey predicts that he will end the season with over 30HR. Also that he will win multiple MVP awards. It'll be fun to watch him progress. Hopefully he doesn't get over weight.

Once he exercises his right to play for a legit team like the greatest team of all time, the Red Sox, he’ll get picked up and get a good contract to try out

30 HR is a pretty big ask. He's impressive though. I'm looking forward to watching him play.

Galarraga was a great hitter. El Gato.

Vlad Jr about to take the plate for his first career at bat.
I’m rock hard.
Vlad doubled in the 9th, then came home on a HR hit by Drury.
Blue Jays won 4-2.

It's a good time to be a Toronto fan right now. They play today at 3.

In his second at bat he also smoked a ball that was three feet shy of going out. Pinder climbed the wall to rob him of a double.

He looked great. 20 years old and he doesn’t chase anything out of the zone. He’s so composed. He works counts and doesn’t swing and miss very often. The double he hit in the 9th was a pitch on the outside over the corner of the plate. Instead of trying to turn on it, he just went with it and sent it down the first base line. Tony Gwynn style.

Another Hauler graph for ya...

The ratio of Hits to K's has never been lower.
% of hits that are HRs has never been higher.
