I would always have changed sn of nigger, fag, etc etc. We should have changed the wilds in And the mocking of me as well, but let it play out because it was an interesting experiment. In the end all it did was cause complaints and new members thought I was an asshole. I can't remember if I manually changed or asked him to change when pnd was shit and actual turd picture. Either way I'm not having abortion pictures and turds as avatars either and that's not explicitly spelled out.
That's also hardly a hill worth dying on.
So if you want to help decide by which criteria screen name changes should be determined feel free to do it. This is the thread for that. But in the mean time, I'll be clear it's not ever going to be completely unfettered. And that's not different than...ever.

I agree. I rarely browse any forums anymore at work or in public due to this.

Absolutely not.... Look there is plenty of other shit we can all break each other's balls over. Using racist symbols or epithets in the forum is really the low hanging fruit of comedy.
Doing shit that may alienate newer posters, and make this place develop a reputation of potentially being "racist friendly", shouldn't be allowed. While some may obviously be making jokes, we don't want to invite or encourage the element to show up in here that may not be joking when they use those phrases and imagery.

Like others have pointed out in the thread, trying to define what is offensive or worth censoring is a completely impossible task, as is trying to control what others think or say. What a tangled mess it gets folks into right away. But it does seem to make a lot of people feel better when it's being attempted.
