i had a conductor that was retired nsa. he had worked all around the world. he told me that no matter what country he was in those fucking chinese had a resteraunt there. his rule was if he didnt see cats or dogs walking around the neighborhood he didnt eat there.

You live in America so the Indian food there sucks balls. But if I were looking at a menu if be looking at
Chicken Tikka massala - the most popular dish. Usually they try a bit harder with this one as it draws in the idiots and they want them to come back.
Madras/ vindaloo - spicy dish. Vindaloo is some places hottest dish. Madras is always up there but it has less veggies in it. Innit. I like Madras myself but I don't order it first time in a new place.
Jalfrezi- had one the other day
This is somewhat an intermediary Imo. Plenty of flavor and often plenty of spice.
And just to be clear. By spice I'm not talking about Mexican food. Indian food has a different way of building heat. They can do it in one bite if your not ready. Or you can be halfway thru a dish and all of a sudden it gets ya.

I have found the small places tend to have great food. It's as if the worse the location or building etc, the better the food?
That's what I typically find. Not just with Chinese, but a lot of different foods. Hole in the wall spots are my thing.
