Patricio Freire’s ambition and drive are some of the reasons the “Pitbull” brother is the Bellator featherweight champion.
Freire looks to become Bellator’s second double champion on May 11th when he takes on Michael Chandler for the lightweight title in the main event of Bellator 221.
While Freire wants Chandler’s “head” more than he wants the Bellator 155 pound title, the featherweight champion plans on going to Bellator partner DAZN for a bit more of an ambitious move.
While Freire may be playing with Marc Raimondi of ESPN, DAZN does broadcast Bellator and Golden Boy Promotions events, and may be a way for the platform to garner a crossover audience for the Viacom owned MMA brand.
Pitbull To Ask DAZN For Canelo Fight | FIGHT SPORTS
This is beyond ridiculous! I get it. MMA fighters see elite boxers making $20 million to $50 million per fight and think "Hey, I want some of that cash."
1) You'd never make that much money stepping into the ring for the first time as a mid-tier MMA fighter
2) Canelo already has a bunch of worthy opponents within the boxing world who would attract much greater interest from fans
3) As much as you're courageous enough to meet Canelo in the ring, you would get your ass handed to you in a completely lopsided fight.
ENOUGH!!!
