Well, well, well. It's almost as if basic economists could actually predict the reciprocal fallout of Presidotard's fake tuff guy approach...

Trump's China tariffs massively backfire as trade deficit smashes record high

Splinty @Splinty-friendly link:

China’s trade surplus with the U.S. hit a record $34.1 billion in September amid trade war
You know things coming from China don't arrive in 1 day, right?
There's a reason the phrase is "slow boat from China". Shit takes forever.

I've been hit with increased prices on materials that come from China (those went into effect Sept 1), but I won't receive that product until November. Suppliers are already looking for alternative sources - both domestic and imported - to see if they can find product that can now compete with the increased Chinese cost. That shit takes time.

I don't know if the end result will be more products being manufactured in the United States (which is the goal) or if the end consumer just ends up paying more for all the shit that comes from China (more likely), but acting like the effectiveness of a tariff can be measured in 1 month is rather foolish.

What's more foolish is pretending that this trade deficit (a record high), didn't happen as a result of the failing trade war....

China enjoyed a record high $34.1 billion trade surplus with the United States in September, taking the surplus for the year to date to $225.8 billion, according to Chinese statistics released on Friday. That’s significantly higher than the $196 billion recorded between January and September last year.

Not surprising. When the tariff became a certainty there was a HUGE rush of orders trying to beat the increase.

Tariffs can be good and neoclassical comparative advantage cum garglers have no idea what the fuck they're talking about (or know exactly what they're doing - lying).

Trump has done some good things on trade. A specific example would be wage minimums for Mexican workers in the re-negotiated NAFTA.

But here's the problem - you push too much and upends the global order that you established in order to maintain hegemony. Trump's trying to fuck with everyone at the same time and it's really bad for the US long-term. You start slapping tariffs on everybody and getting too aggressive, then they will look for ways to fuck you back. Suddenly China and their poor but relatively geopolitically powerful allies, Russia, don't look so bad. Trade is not just about domestic economics but global politics.

The US media is reporting slowing Chinese growth as if that's somehow a 'win'. But to what end? Pushing back the year they overtake the US economy by a year or two? Who gives a fuck? China is playing the long game, and wrecking alliances for short-term 'victories' over them plays exactly into their hands.

Millennials are gonna pissed.
LOL Cados are a millennial food?

I have been eating them since the 80s...fuckers get spendy in the winter if you have to buy them

My neighbor grew them year around in a greenhouse here in Oregon, was a giant greenhouse with like 50 trees of various varieties

Great business plan

I tried to take two softball sized Cados home from Hawaii...they got confiscated

Place we stayed had a bunch of 100 foot avocado trees...they could kill a man when they fell...such an abundance
