US Women’s Soccer Player Says She Will ‘Probably Never Sing The National Anthem Again’

US Women’s Soccer Player Says She Will ‘Probably Never Sing The National Anthem Again’

A U.S. women’s soccer captain has dedicated years of her life to the national team, but that doesn’t mean she takes pride in the current state of her country.

Megan Rapinoe told Yahoo! Sports that she will “probably never sing the national anthem again” in a glowing profile published Monday that described Rapinoe as an “American hero.”

“I’ll probably never put my hand over my heart,” Rapinoe said. “I’ll probably never sing the national anthem again.”

She also repeatedly disparages President Donald Trump and referred to her anthem protests as a “good ‘F you'” to the president of the country she represents. She also called him “sexist,” “misogynistic,” “small-minded,” “racist” and “not a good person.”

Rapinoe made waves in 2016 when she knelt in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the same trend in the NFL.

I guess I just don’t understand why Rapinoe is still donning the jersey of a country she expresses such disdain for. I’m sure there are plenty of other countries that would be ecstatic to welcome such a talented player into their ranks.

Rapinoe’s insults toward America are not edgy or a form of productive activism but simply demeaning to the people that live here and love it here. If Rapinoe feels differently, she’s free to move, but her decision to use her position to disparage her home country on an international stage is a disgrace.

what does her sexuality have to do with her politics?

"America - love it or leave it"
Is that also the message you'd have for Vietnam War protesters, racial justice marchers in the 60s, or the Founding Fathers?

I’m a Libertarian. I’m all for individual freedom and freedom of expression. That being said, I completely disdane and disagree with a representative of our great nation not demonstrating national pride during the anthem. I believe she had the right to do it, but I also believe the USSF has the right to limit their player representatives to individuals who back their nation, not use their platform to say “F you” to their leader.

this country was founded on saying "F You" to our leader.

that level of liberty is what we're known for. She's not saying F America. She's saying F Injustice and F Trump. I'm all about F Injustice and the liberty to say F Leader in any way shape or form.

I wonder if she started to think this way about her country only after the last federal election.

An F you would be to say "I'm not proud of the state of America so I'm not playing to represent it." If also accept "*insert country* gave me a passport so I'll go play there."

Reaping the benefits that playing for America provides while criticizing it, isn't something that can be equated with demanding elected representation.

"Rape"ino.
Some might find this notion ironic.
But trust me, they'll come around.

Soccer is the great redeemer, the fiery crucible in which true heroes are forged.
The one place where all (wo)men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in.
