The current UFC lightweight rankings has Conor McGregor situated at the number three spot, despite a two-year inactivity and a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov last October. This has irked other 155-pound contenders like Justin Gaethje, who is calling for the UFC to take “The Notorious” out of the rankings.

“He’s No. 3. If he’s not going to fight, take him out of the rankings,” Gaethje told ESPN.com. “I’d be cool with that, too, and we can move on from there.”

But if the UFC chooses to keep McGregor ranked, Gaethje is volunteering himself as a viable opponent.

It's a good match up on paper (imo) but I don't know if JG would be able to implement a strategy that doesn't see him outclassed.

His last fight was for the title and before that he won it by obliteration. But his inactivity means you have a valid point.

I think he's got more going on in his life than fighting right now though.

I am not basing that statement on his fighting ability. I don't like seeing guys that are fighting regularly being swept over because Danas mouthpiece wants a title fight.

Its a joke at this stage.

Oh man, can you imagine if this fight happened and Justin wrecked Conor with leg kicks?! That would make me a very, very happy man. I love watching people "chop trees down", and Justin does it so well. The tactic may not work on Conor, but let me dream about it! ;)

At least to me it looked like Gaethje didn't fully commit to his leg kicks against Johson most likely because of him being a southpaw. Justin also showed that Conor has good chance of landing ''that left hand'' so my guess would be early finish by Conor or late stoppage by Gaethje. I would love to see that fight

Conor better stick to sparring amateur boxers and posting videos to make himself look good... Gaethje can take him down anytime he wants.. you're correct he COULD hurt Gaethje and put him away but you have to actually fight in the Octagon. The whole ordeal with khabib only to get mauled then make injury excuses and pulling the whole "I won the war cuz I busted khabibs family in the eye" gtfoh with those moral victories he holds so much weight in..He talked about a man's father, religion and wife only to bitch up during their fight and ws trying to apologize and be buddy's during war...Conor is a great fighter, promoter and business man but at the same time he's a sociopath that has become to comfortable crossing lines you can't conne bk from..Gaethje could chop conors legs in half and knock Conor out as well.. Gaethjes last 2 fights he has showed more composure and strategy without throwing all caution to the wind..I wana see it
