I appreciate you, man. Thanks.
As I do you bro.
I used to be a hard core leftie.
Letting go of my emotional attachment to political issues without researching statistics and facts started with gun control.
My wife’s friends husband was from California. He and I got along great. One night him and a dude I have known since I was 2 got into a fight about gun control. I was all on board with everyone destroying their guns, why did they need them, there’s no reason for anyone to have any AR type weapons, and so on.
I was basically ejaculating everything I had read or heard in the media denouncing gun ownership.
These two dudes who I trusted and loved started hitting me with facts about guns in the states. I sat there and tried to argue but couldn’t. I woke up the next day, took a seat at my computer and began to check what they had told me. It turned out that all the statistics they quoted were true. It wasn’t legal gun owners that were causing a problem (if anything they were taking down the criminals that the media was constantly pushing).
This realization that I had been lied to hit me hard, even more so that I had so easily believed the advertised rhetoric until my beliefs were questioned by two dudes whose opinions I held dear.
That was roughly 7 years ago.
Now I check the ‘facts’ that political parties push (both left and right). It’s fucking disgusting how often the mainstream media lies and warps the truth to further their agenda. I no longer trust a damn thing I read or hear without fact checking it.
I’m in no way saying you should change your political leanings. I enjoy the far right and far left combatants on this board. I value your insight and appreciate your posts. I do not want to see that change.
I just felt the need to explain how I came to the middle and wanted to let people know that a bit a fact checking can drastically change your opinion, if you’re willing to let it be changed.
