They are going to reframe the 007 moniker as being a transferable thing that James Bond just happen to have. I get it. But the two are inextricably linked and I think giving her a different identity and spinning off in the same universe would have been better. Marvel manages this well.
I mean, Batman has been NOT Bruce Wayne but that kind of sucks too, except as an alternative universe arc to get back to Bruce Wayne anyways.
Likewise, 006, the spy that went rogue sets the stage for this and was also a great character. A spin-off showing a prequel of him good and becoming bad would be amazing.
Now 007 is sometimes James Bond and sometimes not...and that sucks.

Kind of my point. The "00x" numbers are assigned to agents who obtain the position. James Bond peaced out at the end of the last movie, and his replacement happens to be a black woman. Clearly, the can't fill the shoes and he has to come out of retirement. I really hope they make him "0045"

Yeah but I thought that was just as back story to bond getting his number. It's his origin. Then for 50+ years it's been him. He is 007. Granted I watched the movie only once when it came out and am vague on details.
Unless this arcs back to 007 being James Bond, it sucks.
