According to a tweet from boxing writer Mike Coppinger, who has information from “sources” within the boxing world, Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman are highly likely to fight one another in Las Vegas on July 20th; the fight to go out on Fox Sports Pay-Per-View.

“Sources: Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman are closing in on a deal for a FOX PPV welterweight title bout that’s being pegged for July 20 in Las Vegas. There doesn’t appear to be any big hurdles to clear in completing deal. Big-time fight this summer,” reads Coppinger’s tweet.

A good fight, an interesting fight, and arguably a 50/50 fight, Pacquiao versus Thurman could prove to be one of the summer highlights of this year’s boxing calendar. Before his less than impressive return fight against Josesito Lopez, against whom he struggled and was hurt more than once, Thurman would have been looked at as a pretty big favourite to beat the 40 year old Pacquiao. But while Thurman laboured against Lopez, Pac Man shone against Lucas Matthysse and more recently Adrien Broner.

Just who has the most left: Pac Man or “One Time?” This is not a question that would have been asked just one fight ago in the career of the unbeaten Thurman, but those injuries coupled with all that time out of action might just have taken far more out of the WBA champ than at first thought. Or perhaps Thurman simply had a bad night, a rusty night, against the seriously tough and durable Lopez.

Pretty excited for this one. As old as Pacquiao is Thurman didn't look great against Lopez, so it's 50/50 for me.

Should be fun.

I can't listen to Thurman speak. I had to skip his parts in the preview shows and couldn't finish their face off. He makes Tito look like a good public speaker

I wish Manny would retire on this one. Great win to go out on. But it looks like he's going to go the time-honored route of fighting until he's a bird-brained chunk of play-doh.
