when I was younger, I would keep the membership 100%. couldn't find the motivation to work out at home, too many distractions. walking through the gym door, leaving phone in car & knowing I was there for the next couple hours helped tremendously. best shape of my life.

last few years I have found working out at home more enjoyable than before, but def not hitting it as hard. would prob still prefer the gym if I wanted to spend the money. the wide range of equipment is a major factor.

perfect scenario is obviously both. gym for the hard workouts, home for the days you're not feeling it.

A dentist of mine years ago hooked me up with overpriced trainers. I was reluctant but his theory was if you had to pay someone you will keep your appt. and workout harder. I had 3 trainers lol It was odd, fun. I'm doing something usually 6 days per week. Weights 3 (although Monday I pussed out) and run 6-7 days. I know we would both use the gym. I'm on my own now so no trainers.

So GF wants to maybe move in a couple years when my son is off to college. I'm thinking a dedicated space and not just a spare bedroom should be part of the criteria.

I once purchased a bowflex blaze. Chucked my dining room table out to accommodate it. It made an excellent dining room table / place to put my clean laundry

I've had exercise equipment end up being clothes hangars. The equipment was purchased for my ex wife so I can't put that lack of use on me.

If I could get my wife to stop parking in the garage, I'd fill that space with a bench, bar, rack, plates & punching bag.

I already have a pull up / dip station, mats & some other stuff in there so, yeah, I'd never go to the gym again.

You aren't afraid of dropping a plate on your feet?
Nope. Our main motivator at the time was paying them daycare or trying to manage time with one parent being home while other went to gym. Now they're a bit older so it's not an issue leaving them alone but I'll probably never go back to an actual gym.

Ive now got my own home gym in a metal shop building.
power rack, assorted barbells, dumbbells to 100lb+, GHD, Row Machine, and an area floored off with plywood and horse stall mats.
Biggest problem is a-holes not re-racking their weights

Save money and don't buy that many plates bc you can't bench more than 135
