I watched this the other day and thought it was cool. Can you imagine trading your bike for one of these?!

And in 1903 there was a 467 km stage? Holy shit that’s brutal. As a mountain biker, I’m used to way smaller numbers of miles/kms :D

To be honest it wasnt really sport at that point.

Plus it wasnt watched on TV at all, just paper articles. Makes a big difference when people have to actually watch it.

Yeah I hear ya, and I understand the race has evolved from what it was back then and into what it is now. But I still enjoy the history of it. I didn’t start watching the Tour until I was a adult, so I’m still entertained by things like this and learning some of the historical stuff.

I was mostly fascinated by them tackling such big stages that far back. Of course the athletes and bike tech, and all of the other intricacies of the race have changed or improved over the years. But those guys from the early years were still animals and absolute studs. Those bikes looked horrible to ride haha (says the guy with a soft and squishy 140mm full suspension bike with fat tires ;))

It's a procession to the Champs then it's full full full gas for the 7-10 laps they normally do to a sprint finish. Nobody loses or gains time on the GC but the sprint prize is the biggest on the race so will be hotly contested.

Caleb Ewan or Dylan Groenowegan should win.

Outside bet, Alexander Kristoff if you want to maybe make some money.

I had money on Nibali for yesterday the second they shortened the stage. Made a few quid. 7/1.
So all the spineters have a code to sort of chill and then go hard at the end? What if theres a dude who feels like hes a better sprinter when tired. Wouldnt he want to push the pace before the sprint?

Yes of course but it's an unwritten rule not to attack on the Last day. Its a bit weird. There's still a fair few km on the champs that you can go full gas on. Attack, make it hard, etc

Once on the champs all bets are off. If you attack before you'll be reeled in by the peloton, not be invited back and not have a ride when you're out of contract... Weird sport innit

Oh true that makes sense. Its not like its easy to attack too early

People in the pelaton will be pissed too lol
