That's not a study, it's an online magazine article. Here's what an actual study looks like, notice it's not easy to read, i.e. not best for click-bait sites.

"Questions surrounding the effects of chronic marijuana use on brain structure continue to increase. To date, however, findings remain inconclusive. In this comprehensive study that aimed to characterize brain alterations associated with chronic marijuana use, we measured gray matter (GM) volume via structural MRI across the whole brain by using voxel-based morphology, synchrony among abnormal GM regions during resting state via functional connectivity MRI, and white matter integrity (i.e., structural connectivity) between the abnormal GM regions via diffusion tensor imaging in 48 marijuana users and 62 age- and sex-matched nonusing controls. The results showed that compared with controls, marijuana users had significantly less bilateral orbitofrontal gyri volume, higher functional connectivity in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) network, and higher structural connectivity in tracts that innervate the OFC (forceps minor) as measured by fractional anisotropy (FA). Increased OFC functional connectivity in marijuana users was associated with earlier age of onset." PDF
Lol. I know I was quoting an article referring to a study. I never committed to finding and posting journal articles for your benefit. I just said they existed and then said I have no idea if marijuana has altered Nate's speech in any way.

Splinty, can you help me out here? I think these dipshits are starting to give me psychosis (although admittedly I think the link between increased dipshittery and psychosis needs more research).

Venue for fight is in California. Recreational weed is legal in California.
Not indoors in a public place like that.

Either a) it was CBD and he's fine or B) It was pot, fight still happens, small suspension and fine. He ends up okay either way.

And what the hell is the difference?
Which one will test positive for 'marijuana metabolites' - i.e. the same shit his brother got suspended for & an overturned result?
CBD is a molecule in the cannabis plant which carries many (if not all or more) of the medicinal benefits of marijuana but it doesn't get you high. People use it for things like inflammation and anxiety. It is not against USADA guidelines. THC is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, and separate from CBD. It is banned in-competition above a certain threshold. A lot of CBD products have a tiny bit of THC in them but likely not enough to get him flagged for a positive test.

I didn't miss the point at all mate. I think you struggle with reading comprehension -but you're probably high, so it's ok. Marijuana is linked to increased risk of psychosis and drug-induced psychosis exists.

As for your silly little formula, you are asking for something that nobody can provide, and it doesn't make you clever.

It's true that we can't definitively 'prove' that in each individual case that a psychotic break was 'caused' by marijuana. We just know that somebody abusing it is more likely to experience one. However, mental health practioners - not being retards - will treat somebody who has no history of mental illness, but is abusing drugs, and suddenly has a psychotic break as having drug-induced psychosis, even if it's possible that the two phenomena are unrelated.

You should read up on this basic science rather than making inane points to some other dipshit on an MMA forum.
Hahaha, good one mate. you just made my point for me, looks like I don't even need to be sober for this debate.
and BTW I am verrrrrrry clever...….you have no idea young man

Marijuana culture is weird. I support full drug decriminalization and understand that there are medical conditions it helps with. But people go way too far with the 'it's harmless' routine.

I've been to nuthouses visiting a family member with marijuana-induced psychosis and watched it nearly ruin his life. That's after being mates with another guy that happened to as a teenager, who ended up killing himself.

I'm not sure how anyone can see Nate smoke, then listen to him talk and go 'that guy's fucking cool - one day I want to be completely incomprehensible just like him'.
You were witness to two very rare situations which were likely (if anything) exacerbated by marijuana use, but not necessarily caused by marijuana use.

It affects different people in different ways, depending on a lot of things, including genetics, method of absorption, age, frequency, and many others. It has been shown to raise the risk of certain issues similar to what you describe, but much of the research is a "chicken or egg" situation. In my experience, and research, it seems as though chronic use while the brain is developing (before 25 or so) can affect the way that the brain functions. Either way, in my opinion, there is a very big chance that your loved ones were predisposed to the terrible things that they went through, and marijuana use didn't help. Obviously not definitive.

People always want to demonize cannabis more than other substances.

“Marijuana makes you a loser if you use it all the time, all you become is couch potato and sleep and eat all day”

Yet, totally dismisses what happens to a person when they drink all day. Or smoke meth all day
Or do heroine all day
Or pop pills all day
Or eat sugar all day
Or play video games all day

If you abuse anything, you become a loser but still, when compared to all that, Marijuana is least damaging

Ummmm am I missing something here?
Or is he not flirting with a positive test???
I'm not a pot head loser, so I honestly don't know - I believe you can't be high on fight night, or it can't be in your system (withing 24 hours of the fight?), but seriously ... wtf is he doing?
(Pettis by showtime kick KO please)
Why u hating? He’s doing it cuz it’s ok. He’s smoking non thc, CBD joint from his brand “Game Up”

It’s like taking some omega3 pills to reduce inflammation.

agreed, but two things are worthy of consideration:

1) that pesky schizophrenia issue does tend to raise its head alarmingly for some. if you are unaffected, you can bypass all that and not worry. but it is a legit concern.

2) if you smoke and think it's ok, helps to blind you to the effects, which can reach further than the smoker might imagine.

good points. even Rogan admitted on the show that they've seen research results of people going through nervous breakdowns, but that's for those who was a pothead all their life.

smoking is bad, I know this from personal experience. Its good to share joints with group of friends once in a blue moon but if you make it into everyday habit, like 5+ times a day probably damages the respiratory system. The weed joints are not even filtered so you're getting all that heat right into your lungs

I got high all day every day for about 12 years, then in my early 30s started getting panic attacks every time I smoked weed. Quit cold turkey, been about 7 years now since i quit

I was only saying look at the extremes to people who think Marijuana is harmless and reminding people that it still has the potential to be very dangerous if abused. Just as some people try go all Reefer Madness, others go too far the other way and downplay it too much.

Studies have shown that marijuana use can impact speech too. Neither you nor I know how much, if at all, it has affected Nate or Nick. But it might have.

My point was more that having a guy who sounds like he's smoked himself retarded (whether or not he has) being an ambassador for marijuana use should give people more pause than it does.
you're confusing 'relatively harmless' with 'harmless'.

And you're confusing 'might have' with 'could have'.

They talk about windows of efficacy for other meds and I think it applies with weed as well. Different circumstances in your life will definitely change how you react while your high. I’ve been through periods where it was causing me to panic, be more self conscious and way more paranoid so I stop for a while. I don’t make it a point to start back up rather it sort of happens naturally. I’ve gone ten years of all day ever day type of use down to nothing back up to just a little bit at night etc etc.

I had a similar experience with drinking. I used to drink with the best of them up until my late 20’s but when I reached 30-ish it totally stopped working as a “fun” thing to do and just started making me ill. So I stopped and thankfully I’ve never made my way back to drinking any alcohol consistently. I just can’t stomach it much anymore. Maybe a beer with friends but anything more and I’m out and feel like shit the next day.

Weed is a drug and like other drugs you must respect it. You need to listen to your body and mind when you do things and consider if it’s still right for you or not.

Wow, I had more message alerts than the girl I'm stalking has when she wakes up. I really riled up these stoners. I thought you cunts were supposed to be mellow?

But it is true to form - the only thing they seem to like talking about is getting high, so it makes sense that insulting their raison d'etre is worse than insulting their mothers.

This is why it's better to talk to drinkers. Sure there's a decent chance they'll glass you in the face but at least they won't bore you to death before they do it.

I have no problem with Nate at all. The fact he has speech issues is just a fact, but it doesn't make him a bad bloke.
