It appears that Anthony Pettis was compromised early in his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 241. The former UFC lightweight champion broke his right foot in the first round of his co-main event with Diaz, which he lost by unanimous decision, coach Duke Roufus confirmed to ESPN Sunday.

The severity of the break is currently unknown, as is how long it will take Pettis to recover and return to the cage. The injury may require surgery, according to Roufus, but Pettis won’t know for sure until he returns home to Milwaukee.

Pettis posted a photo of his foot on Instagram early Sunday morning.

Have to wonder if the fight would have played out differently if Pettis would have been able to continue throwing kicks.

Are we sure that break came on the head? Did he hurt it when Nate checked that kick?

I will have to rewatch.

I thought it happened in the 2nd round when Nate checked one of the attempted low kicks. Nate did say that he trained differently for this fight and I noticed he was a bit more cognizant of the leg kicks right off the bat. We may have seen more leg kicks if Pettis didn't break a foot but I don't think it was a "freak" accident. Nate checked a kick and Pettis broke his foot on it. Next time they should think twice about this supposed "blueprint" to beat Nate. :p

Just rewatched the fight and it seemed to me it was the kick right at the beginning of round 2. Nate checks the kick, Pettis' ankle gives out then he falls back. The slow mo really shows how much that kick to Nate's shin really hurt. ouch...

pettis foot shape is the greek foot impressive I have that too for athletes and both our ancestors are from zacatecas mexico him on his moms side or was it his dad who was mexican.

The Greek is also often called the Flame Foot or Fire Foot and is where the second toe is larger than the big toe. Meaning: People with this shape are said to be sporty and creative but have the tendency to be impulsive which can lead to stress.
