Sometimes when you’re teasing something big, less is more. That was clearly the thought in the minds of Bellator’s public relations team when it fired off a press release that landed in The Blue Corner’s inbox Tuesday.

“BELLATOR MMA TO ANNOUNCE INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE SIGNING”

That was the title, before going on to tell us that the promotion will unveil its latest addition on Thursday, but for now describing the new arrival simply as “a major new signing to their international roster of talent.”

Bellator helpfully provided two promo shots of the fighter in question, neither of which did much to reveal the identity, other than we can safely say it’s a man. Check out the photos here:

We put our best people (well, everyone on the early shift) on the case and came up with the following information about their new arrival:

He’s huge.

Clearly this man is a heavyweight. If not, then he’s got one hell of a weight cut on his hands before he makes his debut.

He’s hairy.

Nothing much to glean from that, but we’re reporting what we know, so there you have it. He also appears to have a noticeable lack of tattoos on his arm and torso.

He’s probably someone we’ve heard of, though we’re wondering if he might not necessarily come from the MMA sphere. He looks like a man who’s done a bit of powerlifting in the past. He could well be a former (or current) pro wrestler.

Could it be KSW’s Polish hero, Mariusz Pudzianowski? What about hulking WWE superstar Rusev? Earlier this week we heard a rumor that the son of the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Colt Toombs, had signed with the promotion, but Bellator officials said there was nothing to confirm from their end.

But maybe there is now? Who knows? Honestly, we’re grasping at straws and right now your guess is as good as ours.

Pudz would be a waste of time IMO... Bellator has done awesome with signings and developing talent, making a big thing over Pudz would be a "meh" move for them.

What international HW has been killing it on the world scene these last few years?

I met him at London shoot in about 2007. he said he met the head trainer, Alexis, in a physio's waiting room. Alexis had explained that wrestling would help his rugby game and he was correct.

it was his first time at the gym I think. Alexis stuck him and his mate in to pure wrestle a psychotic featherweight from eastern Europe, who took each of the heavyweight rugby players down within 10 seconds. they were impressed and James obviously stuck around

fast forward to today, he must have been training with those lunatics since then. plus always remember that Alexis and Paul would be unlikely to let him represent them unless they thought he was good enough to carry the London shootfighter name

James Haskell. Former England rugby player. All around lad. Retired from Pro rugby this season, but was playing international up to retirement. International is deemed to be a much higher level than club in rugby.

No idea why he would want to fight in a cage outside of being a fan an athlete. He's big, but he's not a fighter

captain of the obvious lol

in a similar vein, running in the Olympics is seen as a much higher level than taking part in a fun run, while dressed as a chicken.
