https://deadspin.com/leaked-memo-bleacher-reports-top-eight-ways-to-not-pi-1109282118

This is from 2013 and a lot of people wouldn't have seen it, so I thought I'd repost it in a new thread rather than bury it in the Luke Thomas goes in on Helwani thread (you should watch that video too).

These guidelines were written by Jeremy Botter for Bleacher Report but who now works for fake news CNN. They read like an internal North Korean government document talking about how to handle Dear Leader.

This is the shit Thomas is talking about with the MMA media - he's not exaggerating how fraudulent the whole thing is.

Surely this is common sense when dealing with people like this.

Everyone just be thinking I"wonder what happened with Dana and his mum"

Are you saying just the part about Dana's mum is common sense, or the whole memo?

Because the stuff about not inquiring about the UFC's financials really shows the depths of MMA journalism's obsequiousness.

No the whole doc. I'm just interested in his mum.

MMA media sucks IMO because
> the demand/reward (clicks) for shitty drama reporting seems to be higher than solid content.

I don't know much other sports reporting, maybe formula1 but stuff like MMA articles are a farce and a shame. but the fans seem to pick it up, in forums there is alao more activity about 'drama'-topics instead of sports content. Fighter A gets asked opinion about fighter B. Says B is okay but that he's gonna beat him. Headline: A vicously attacks B on social media. and to that, I imagine, a lot of people actually jerk off. Like AH. And not about how good the th
thght is gonna be, but about how many silly PPVs it might sell. MMA fans&media have a short-penis-complex.
How often do you instead see articles like 'the most succesfull submission methods by numbers in 2018‘ or 'UFC pro fighters detail their amateur careers', 'schedule of a ring girl' or 'here is a list of all performance bonus winning fights without spoilers of 201x' Instead you get Marc Raimondi who obviously never really did any sort of sport competitively (except for maybe trouserpocket-snooker) beingh ushered through the PI and the only thing that actually gets his interest is the one comfy chair that they got. All the actual sports equipmemt didn't interest him.

I'm not saying you have to have had fights for anything like that or your opinion is not valid. no no. but some MMA media are clearly dorks who got attracted to the pro wrestling drama and think that that is the same now for mma. And apparently, fans eat up the cheap drama.
And some mma media, I must assume, started reporting as a side gig or couldn't make it to be a journalist for a newspaper or something so they stuck with MMA.
